The Golden State Warriors, who beat Dallas Mavericks 109-100 in Game 3 on Sunday night, are one victory away from the NBA final. With Stephen Curry’s 31-point performance and Andrew Wickins’ 27 points, Golden State regained its dominance over Dallas and took a 3-0 lead in the series.
Luca Tonsic tried to give the Mavericks the lead with 40 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, but, once again, despite 46 points from Jalan Brunson and Spencer Dinvidi, Dallas did not have enough to complete the victory. Come back in this series.
The Warriors will try to finish the series on Tuesday, and if so they will be waiting for the winner of the Boston Celtics-Miami Heat series at the Eastern Conference.
Here are three takeaways from Game 3 in Dallas.
1. Andrew Wiggins, Pick up a bow
Let’s take a look at this ridiculous dunk that Wiggins had in Danzig in the fourth quarter.
That’s the Dunk of the Year material. In fact, it’s better than all the tanks we’ve seen during the All-Star Weekend Dunk competition earlier this season. It topped Cherry more than what another star performance of Wiggins was, he finished with a 27-point playoff career high with 11 boards and three assists.
Wiggins excelled in all series for the Golden State, averaging over 20 points, while drawing a tough defensive job in defending Dansik at the other end of the field. While Dansik still gets his points, Wiggins makes the Slovenian superstar incredibly tough, and somehow finds enough energy to finish such dunks in the fourth quarter despite playing more minutes for the Warriors player.
Wiggins has at times become the second best player on the team, and Golden State should be the best role player when Carrie and Clay Thompson get stuck in traffic. His consistent production at both ends of the field, including six offensive rebounds, is the reason Dallas has had the most miserable time trying to defend this Warriors team.

2. Dallas Roll Players No-Show in Important Game 3
When the Mavericks lost 0-2 in the conference semifinals against the Phoenix Suns, four of their five starters scored in doubles to win Game 3. Reggie Bullock, Dorian Finney-Smith and Maxie Klepper combined for 43 points in that game, giving Dallas – and Tonsik – the impetus needed to get back into the series.
Not so on Sunday evenings. Danzig got a lot of help from his backcourt comrades John Brunson and Spencer Dinvidi, who scored 46 points. Finney-Smith had just nine points, while Kleber finished 0-5 with zero points. When those three shoot badly, Dallas is not going to win many games.
Unlike the previous two games in the series, Dallas kept it close to the final buzz, but without guys like Bullock, Finney-Smith and Kleber they could not have taken a proper run.
3. The Warriors are one win away from the NBA Final
Golden State has dominated the entire series, and now has only one win to reach the sixth NBA Final in eight years. If both Thompson and Curry have not had injuries in the last two years, it would be insane to think that the Warriors might be on the verge of reaching their eighth straight NBA final, which is how talented this team has been in the past. Eight years.
There is still work to be done, as Tonzi and the other Mavericks will do everything in their power to extend the series and avoid the sweep. But with the Warriors now comfortable in the driver’s seat, it’s not too early to start thinking about the next opponent on the calendar.
