On Saturday, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s office said “a window has opened where UK defense and security officials have backed away from Russia due to restructuring issues and falling morale”.
“The deployment of Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine is the start of a gear shift in support for the UK,” a statement said. “A platoon of 14 tanks will move into the country in the coming weeks after the Prime Minister told President Zelensky that the UK would provide additional support to help Ukraine’s ground war.
“About 30 AS90s, which are large, self-propelled guns manned by five gunners, are expected to follow,” the statement added.
