PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Nine people were taken to the hospital after multiple gunmen opened fire outside a bar in Philadelphia’s Kensington section Saturday night.
It happened in the area of East Allegheny and Kensington Avenue around 10:45 p.m.
Police say the gunmen got out of a black vehicle parked in the middle of the block and fired about 40 rounds.
Nine victims were taken to area hospitals. Police say two victims are listed as critical and seven as stable.
The victims have not been identified, but police say they are all adult males and females.
“There are some very shameful people in this city and these people need to be taken into custody,” said John Stanford, first deputy commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department.
It is still unclear what prompted the shooting.
“At this point, it appears that these individuals may have identified someone they wanted to shoot, exited the vehicle, and opened fire on a group of individuals there. Motive,” Stanford said.
Police are still searching for the shooters.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
Sources first told Action News that 12 people were injured in the shooting.
