SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Steve Kerr wants Klay Thompson to get some rest and let the game come to him.
Thompson is certainly showing signs of rediscovering his shooting groove.
“I thought about it a lot,” Thompson said of being patient.
He scored 20 points with four 3-pointers, Stephen Curry added 24 points, 10 assists and six rebounds, and Golden State Warriors to beat New York Knicks 111-101 on Friday night.
Andrew Wiggins added 20 points with seven rebounds and Draymond Green contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists with two blocked shots.
Thompson hit 4 of his first 6 shots with three 3s for 11 early points.
“Every time Clay made an extra pass, the ball started moving and then we got a wide open shot,” Kerr said. ”We finished with 32 assists. It started early on with Clay taking a very patient approach. Then the game rewarded him,” he said.
Jordan Poole scored 13 points off the bench and Jamichal Green added 12 points. He praised a team meeting earlier Friday when the Warriors had a tough conversation about their struggles and “addressed the elephants in the room.”
Thompson called it “a very creative crowd…an incredible time of growth.”
“I feel like tonight was a great game we put together on the defensive end,” he said.
Julius Randle had 20 points and seven rebounds and R.J. Barrett scored 18 for the cold-shooting Knicks, who started 5 of 22 and shot 34.5% while trying to play catch-up all night.
Jalen Brunson went 2-for-13 on his shooting — 1-for-5 from long range — and had 13 points to lead New York to a 106-103 win in Denver on Wednesday night. The Knicks have won two of four straight and three of three, but have failed to match their longest streak thus far.
Home and road
The Warriors are 7-1 at home and 0-8 on the road.
“I’m more interested in why we’re not playing well on the road than why we’re playing well at home,” Kerr said. “I expect to play well at home. We’ve had a good record here over the years and good players, great fans. We should not restrict our home court for any reason. But we have to start putting it together down the road.
Golden State snapped a three-game home skid to the Knicks and won its last eight in New York.
“For me, road registration is directly linked to safety,” Kerr said.
