There have been at least 3,169,315 total COVID cases as of Friday, including at least 33,660 deaths in the state since the outbreak began.
As of Thursday night, 808 patients were reported to be hospitalized with COVID-19 in Illinois. Of them, 66 patients were in the ICU and 24 patients were on ventilators with COVID-19.
A total of 22,018,536 vaccine doses were administered in Illinois as of Thursday, and 64.76% of the state’s population was fully vaccinated. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 14,163.
Ahead of the hectic weekend of Mother’s Day celebrations, authorities are urging people to wear masks and avoid meetings altogether if you have any symptoms.
Chicago and several suburban districts are now at a “middle” community level, with the CDC defining more than 200 new cases per 100,000 people in the last seven days.
“Unfortunately there is a misconception that we’ve got out of this, so I think people are not as alert as they used to be,” said Dr. Susan Bleestale, director of UI Health Prevention.
Chicago city officials are now strongly recommending that masks be worn in indoor public places, including CTA and CPS schools.
“Everyone should wear a mask,” said Dr. Emily Landon, director of infection prevention at Yusikako Medicine. “An event you do not want to get sick of. If you have a holiday that you do not want to miss because you are at home with goiter, you should always wear a mask.”
For now, this is still a recommendation and not a requirement. But if hospitalization continues, it may be on the horizon.
For many who are planning to reunite with their families, Mother’s Day is moving into the middle of nowhere before the weekend. Doctors warn that quick tests will not diagnose goiter if your symptoms are mild.
“You have to be very careful,” Pleistale said. “If you go to see your mother, if there is someone who is vulnerable, if you’ve going to see them, you may choose to wear a mask all the time you go together.”
He said Chicagoans need to make sure that they and everyone in their social network are up-to-date with the Covid-19 vaccine and booster, testing for potential COVID-19 symptoms, and continuing to adhere to all isolation and isolation requirements.

However, CDPH Commissioner Alison Arvadi said Chicago’s move to the “middle” level did not mean re-establishing a face-to-face mask order, restrictions on public meetings or vaccination requirements. Arwady said that if the city moves to a “higher” social status, the CDPH will consider those measures as “we are not close to Chicago now”.
“We obviously do not want to go there. Acting with some more caution now will help keep the Govt under control in Chicago,” Arvadi said.
He added that moving to the “middle” level was not a cause for warning.
“We expect to reach the middle ground for some time to come,” said CDPH Commissioner Alison Arvadi. “This is not a cause for alarm, because now most cases are mild and fortunately our COVID-19 is admitted to the hospital and deaths are close to infection all the time in Chicago.
