Congratulatory messages from around the world have poured into London following the official announcement of Charles III as the new King of England.
European Council President Charles Michael has wished the new British monarch a “successful and glorious reign”.
King Felipe VI of Spain sent this message:
On this auspicious occasion of the proclamation of your accession to the throne, I extend to your Majesty, on behalf of myself and the Government and people of Spain, our hearty congratulations.
Even Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his congratulations: “Please accept my sincere congratulations on your accession to the throne. I wish Your Majesty success, good health and all the best.
Putin’s message is that he is waging a war against Ukraine, in which the UK is firmly on Kyiv’s side.
The UK has sent arms and military training to Kiev to defend the country against Russian aggression.
Meanwhile, London Mayor Sadiq Khan also congratulated Charles.
“On behalf of all Londoners, I wish our new King, King Charles III, every success as he takes on this important responsibility,” Khan said in a tweet.
