Police say four of the seven shooting victims were initially listed in critical condition and taken to local hospitals.
Two people later died at the hospital, officials said.
Police said the incident was reported at the Peck Park Car Show on N. Western Avenue just before 4 p.m., although the gunfire did not appear to have occurred near the event, where hundreds of people had gathered. The show itself.
Witnesses said hundreds of people gathered around the park for the car show and other activities. On hearing the gunshots, people panicked and ran away.
“All of a sudden we heard three shots – pow pow pow,” said witness Dwayne Ellis. “Then we heard over 50 or 100 — pow pow, boom boom. All kinds of shots. People were running.”
Police say the incident started after an argument between two men on the baseball diamond at the park. They said it was not considered an active shooter situation.
Police are investigating whether more than one shooter may have opened fire.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said four men and three women were taken to local hospitals.
Police cordoned off the park as they investigated the shooting incident.
Information about the suspected shooters was not immediately available.
