On June 7, 2008 I'll be taking my WBC-ABU title into the ring
for my
first defense. I am lined up to box Ruben Williams. He is a
fighter
from Michigan and was part of the last season Contender
reality
boxing show. Now he is contending for my title. The contract
is in
and the ink is dry. Williams' record is 29-4 with 16 KO's.
Believe
me, since winning my title I have felt the pressure to elevate
my
boxing regimen to make sure I keep it. With my defense I'll
prove
that my winning the WCB-African Boxing Union Title was no
fluke! This
is the statement I want to make with this fight.
A unique angle on this bout is that I have met him while I was
in
camp in Florida. I watched him spar with Antonio Tarver and
have seen
a few of his fights on TV. He is a talented boxer and by far
one of my
toughest matches to date. This is the kind of fight I want and
I am
blessed to have a team that can make these kinds of fights
happen. I
continue to improve on all aspects of my boxing game in the
gym and
lately I have opened my eyes to see boxing in a new light. I
have
learned to see boxing in a more simplified manner. I know my
abilities and understand more how I match up with other
boxers.
Another cool aspect of the show is that Andy 'KAOS' Kolle will
be on
the card. He and I have trained together since we got going
with
boxing way back in middle school. We haven't boxed on the same
card
for almost a year and I look forward to sharing the ring with
him
again. After watching Kolle dominate Matt Vanda last winter, I
know
he is ready for whoever is placed in front of him. It is still
several weeks out, but word on the upcoming show leaked out before
the official promotion got going and tickets have been going fast.
As always, please keep me and my team in your prayers as we
prepare
for this show. So much goes in to one fight and I am at a
level now
where I need to be at my best every time I box. All my
opponents have
skills and bring a solid game into the ring. This is what it
takes to
get to the top. Thanks for the support.
See you at the fights.
