WRIGHT MOVES CLOSER TO TITLE FIGHT... by George Elsasser
Winky Wright did the expected -  a unanimous decision win over visiting Aussie  Sam Soliman - surprise was how difficult the assignment became, as the unskilled down under man with the unorthodox style managed to keep ticking from start to finish.

“WINKY” NOT ANSWERING CALL FOR GREATNESS!... by Pedro Fernandez

If Ronald “Winky” Wright, 159 ½, St. Petersburg, FL, had a calling Saturday night, it was another case of “Winky” simply not hearing the phone. Utilizing his size and reach advantage, this is addition to his safety-first southpaw approach, Wright, again, did things his way, sans any punctuation marks. Only thing is, Sam Soliman, 159, Melbourne, Australia, he came to fight. Like most Wright fights, there were no knockdowns. And as is the norm, he didn’t batter the now 31-8 Soliman at will, let alone from pillar to post, or into submission.

TAYLOR EDGES HOPKINS AGAIN... BUT WHAT DOES HIS FUTURE HOLD?... by Chris Robinson
It was the same two fighters in the same city and it was pretty damn reminiscent of their first fight as Jermain Taylor again edged out Bernard Hopkins for a close decision at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. All three judges had the bout 115-113 for Taylor (25-0, 17 KO’s), who holds on to his Middleweight belts. Hopkins drops to 46-4-1 with 32 knockouts and seemed to hint at retirement while leaving the door open for life in boxing outside of Taylor.

EARLY RESULTS FROM LAS VEGAS... by Chris Ackerman @ ringside
An unexpected bonus came to media awaiting tonight's showdown in the form of some preliminary bouts.  Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather put on a scintillating display of heart and guts in a raucous 6 round affair that saw both guys firing reckless shots reminiscent of Hagler-Hearns.  Floyd as expected, darted in and out relying heavily on the lead right hand and it proved too much for the game Mosley.  Shane was dropped twice in the 6th and was unable to answer the bell giving Floyd another KO victory.

AN EXCITING FIGHT STARRING SOLIMAN AND WRIGHT... Sharkie's Machine by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
Saturday night in Uncasville Connecticut, visiting Aussie Middleweight contender, Sam Soliman (31-8-0-12 KO’s, ranked #1 by the IBF) took on one of America’s top notch pugilists, Ronald “Winky” Wright (50-3-0-25 KO’s). It had to be one of the toughest fights Wright has ever had.  Soliman’s game performance won the crowd but lost the decision in the eyes of the Judges at ringside, who scored it a unanimously in favor of Wright by scores of, 117-110, 115-112 and 115-113. The crowd booed the decision.

MIDDLEWEIGHT SHAKE UP BREAKS BORE 'NARD' ING ERA... by Jim Amato
Two middleweight fights yesterday may have shifted the balance in this long boring division. With all due respect to Bernard Hopkins, his long tenure as champion featured few exciting battles. Add to that the fact that both his razor close losses to new titleholder Jermain Taylor were about as thrilling as a John Ruiz fight.

THEY ARE SELLING, I AM NOT BUYING...  by Frank Costarelli Jr.
The carnival barkers at HBO will be in full force Saturday evening.  HBO and some members of the boxing establishment have something they want to sell you. What are they selling?  They  are selling  Ronald “Winky” Wright... I’m not willing to buy into or ordain Winky as the heir apparent to Jermain Taylor. What  has Winky accomplished to merit this distinction?

WINKY WRIGHT AND FLOYD MAYWEATHER: VICTIMS OF THEIR OWN TALENT... by Tom Dickey

At the top of most boxing writers pound for pound lists stand two fighters who have rarely headlined a pay per view. Two fighters who have rarely fought in a mega fight. Yet, these two fighters would more than likely be considered the two best pound for pound fighters today. The two men we are talking about  are Winky Wright and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
