TAYLOR WHACKS BUNEMA IN SEVEN By George Elsasser |
![]() |
Hometown Little Rock favorite Jermain Taylor remained undefeated
after whacking out a game but overmatched Alex Bunema following a furious
seventh round barrage of power punches.
The end began with a big right
hand on and thru the target … a follow up barrage dropped Bunema who beats the
count, but is quickly dropped a second time courtesy of an eye-catching Taylor
finishing flurry.
Watching the 25 year old Taylor dominating from the
opening to the finish in stanza seven I had the impression I was watching a 21st
century smaller version of prime time heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in
style.
It was the jab … a punisher … accurate and heavy, and a
discourager to the shorter Bunema who never once was in contention … and backing
the big stick was a heavy handed right hand coupled with some hurting body
punches.
Not a single fault in the last night Taylor performance with
most experienced opponent to date … but the rush to Hopkins makes little sense
… another year of development can do no damage … a premature Hopkins affair
could well be a mother of all errors.
Taylor goes to 20 wins with 15
stops … Bunema drops to 24-4-2, 12 by KO.
