MANNY PACQUIAO and JOSHUA
CLOTTEY's March 13th match up is aptly titled
"THE EVENT."
Clottey, the
WBO's No.1 contender - is squared up against the undisputed
P4P World Champion, Pacquiao. On paper this looks like a
dream match up. With 59 knockouts between them and a loyal
contingency of Boxing-faithful in hot pursuit of each
man's next move, one can only assume that this fight has
been in the making for years.
This is far
from the truth however, and Floyd "Money" Mayweather can
attest to it. Nonetheless, the fight-game rolls on.. At the
moment, Manny Pacquiao is the most recognizable and most
prominent face in Boxing.
His 12th round
knockout of 3-time World Champion Miguel Cotto last
November made Manny Pacquiao a household name catapulting
him to the role of "puppet master" of the Welterweight
division.
Since Manny and
his crew are calling the shots from the drivers seat,
simply stated, if "Money" wants to fight him - he's gonna
have to play by their
rules.
Floyd wasn't
having it, so upon his being kicked out of the sandbox,
Pac's crew chose the next best thing - enter
Joshua Clottey.
In 2008, Clottey trounced 3-time World Champion Zab Judah
in front of an international PPV audience. This was one of
many high profile fights for Joshua Clottey.
His career is a
highlight reel of ex-champs, No.1 contenders
and devastating KO victories. When he dropped a close
split-decision loss to Cotto last summer many of us thought
that the only ones siding
against him were two of the judges sitting ringside.
So be it.
At the end of the day, Joshua Clottey is currently ranked
#1 by the WBO and if any boxer (other than Money
Mayweather) is ready to unseat the World P4P Champ - it's
him.
