There's gonna
be some Latin blood spilled in Atlantic City this weekend - well, that's
what a few of the opponents are hoping for anyway.
2008 was an excellent year for Juan Manuel Lopez. In a matter of 10
months he stopped three undefeated Champions in the 1st round. The one
fighter who did happen to make it past the 1st round was mercifully
rescued in the 3rd by the referee. Juan Manuel Lopez is 1-0 with 1
knockout (Penelosa) so far in '09.
In preparing something positive and interesting to say about Lopez's
opponent Olivier Lontchi, outside of his 18-0 record I found it hard
pressed at first. Lontchi does hail from Montreal which is rapidly
becoming the hot bed of Boxing. The quality of fighters by which
Lontchi has composed 18 wins however - is mediocre at best.
He does have 150 amateur bouts to his credit and won a few big fights in
said competition before turning pro 5 years ago. So at best, the fight
could be interesting by way of solid shots; yet, don't expect an upset.
-----------------------
Jorge Arce has 51 wins under his belt with a KO ratio of 76%. His fight
vs WBO Flyweight Champion Fernando Lumacad should be more uneventful
than shocking. Lumacad hails from the very same town as Manny
Pacquiao.
Lumacad looked scared, almost petrified during today's presser. Not a
good sign; yet, this is his debut on a major card vs a worthy opponent -
so we'll have to cut him some slack.
------------------------
In my eyes however, the match up that actually gets me salivating is the
Yuri Foreman - Cornelius Bundrage showdown.
Foreman, amidst final preparations to become a certified rabbi, is 27-0
and currently ranked #3 by the IBF. Bundrage, the IBO Middleweight
Champion, fresh off a KO victory over undefeated Ukranian
Zaurbek Baysangurov,
19-0) is ranked #2 by the IBF. Fireworks are expected.
LATIN FURY is taking place in Atlantic City - THIS Saturday.
