On Thursday, December 3rd STAR BOXING will host a
backyard slugfest in Manhattan's Grand-Ballroom.
This fight-card hits all levels of what we want to see in
boxing:
-
*A Champion will be crowned,
-
*Two undefeated Amateur phenoms square up against each
other,
-
*An undefeated cruiserweight hopes to halt the momentum
of his upset-minded opponent,
-
*The veil will be lifted on one (or both) main event
fighters
For starters let's look at the title fight. "Million Dollar
Baby" sparring partner
MAUREEN SHEA (13-2, 7 KOs) will continue to ride her
popularity into yet another chance to become a REAL Boxing
Champion. Shea who was once 13-0, has been TKO'd in her last
2 fights. This could be her last opportunity to cash in on
the hopes of being regarded as a "real-life" prize-fighter.
It's going to be interesting to see how this pans out.
One of VERNON FORREST'S sparring partners in the weeks before
he was shot by a coward was
BRAD SOLOMON. Solomon (8-0, 3 KOs) is an ex-con who
learned the fight-game in giant leaps & strides while in
prison and he's yet to be beaten in his young pro career.
His opponent, RAY ROBINSON
however took a quite different path (11-0, 4 KOs)
towards his undefeated record. Another product of the NMU/OEC
program in Marquette, Georgia, Ray Robinson grew
up confident that it was more than his name setting him apart
in the world of Boxing. Robinson was a National Champion in
the amateur ranks and winning a World Title is what he feels
is his likely next step.
A few weeks ago JOSH HARRIS
(4-3 , 3 KOs) made a trip to Yonkers as an
"opponent" vs a 10-1 rising star. Harris had been KO'd twice
himself but was determined to make his new trainer (Jason
Estrada's pop) proud of him. Jason told me that Harris had
been ironing out some kinks and was ready for the challenge.
The result was a first round KO for Harris.
Harris looks to put the brakes on another fast rising
superstar in 7-0 JAYWON
WOODS.
Finally in the main event, the truth behind
MIKE ARNAOUTIS 22
wins (22-3, 10 KOs) could be upended as he faces "Pit-bull"
TIM COLEMAN (16-1-1, 4
KOs). This is a HUGE fight for both fighters and a
loss at this junction of their careers will be profound.
