Reported as
it happened by Ricky Ray Taylor @ ringside...
TOMASZ ADAMEK /
Poland / 39-1 (27) vs JASON ESTRADA / Providence / 16-2 (4)
12 rounds / IBF Heavyweight International Championship
Rd. 1 / It was clear that Estrada's speed caught Adamek
off-guard in the first minute of the first round.
Rd. 2 / Adamek improvised and turned up the pace in round 2
trading blow for blow with the speedy Estrada, probably
winning the round.
Rd. 3 / An all-out slugfest erupts in round 3 with each
fighter flurrying with multi-punch combos like a pair of
featherweights - only with heavy-weight power.
Rd. 4 / This is quickly turning into one of the fastest
paced heavyweight fights I've ever seen. Each fighter
lands hard and plenty with Estrada (perhaps) having a
slight edge.
Rd. 5 / Adamek's right eye is bleeding and beginning to
shut yet he continues to make each round close with a
stiff, fast jab. A chorus of A-DAM-EK resounds from what
seems to be an 80% contingency of Polish fans. Both
fighters are pulled apart at the bell amidst yet another
multi-punch flurry.
Rd. 6 / Estrada picks well placed shots early in the round
and begins to frustrate Adamek. The round is close round
due to Adamek's activity.
Rd. 7 / Adamek lands clean counter shots to Estrada's head
and body as Estrada stalks, another clean flurry lands by
Adamek. A confused Estrada finally gets on his toes for a
different look while Adamek clearly wins the round.
Rd. 8 / The styles change yet again as Adamek becomes the
aggressor, Estrada on his toes lands a clean and solid
left-hook before Adamek returns a quick well placed flurry
to Estrada's forehead. The momentum is slowly shifting in
Adamek's favor.
Rd. 9 / Adamek back-pedals the entire round as Estrada
lands 2 counter rights at the bell. Adamek is diligently
pulling away with "ring generalship" and by staying busier.
Rd. 10 / Estrada lands a crushing over-hand right in the
first :30 and closes the distance looking to finish him
yet, doesn't have the power to inflict damage. (This is
the case for most of the fight)
Adamek takes :15 seconds off and retaliates with a flurry
of hard left-hook that erupts the crowd into a frenzy.
Rd. 11 / Boxing and moving, Adamek picks clean shots.
Estrada is looking like a fighter who's been figured out.
An occasional counter right hand lands for Estrada yet is
quickly followed up with a 3 or 4 punch retaliation by
Adamek. The crowd is now cheering and ALL of them are on
their feet.
Rd. 12 / Adamek is feeding off of it by brilliantly boxing
the stalking Estrada. 1-2-hooks by Adamek are frequent and
flush with an occasional uppercut landing for good
measure. Each fighter throws toe to toe in the final :20
while Estrada immediately raises his hands in victory at
the bell.
115-113, 116-112, 118-110, WINNER UD ADAMEK
PETER QUILLEN /
Brooklyn / 20-0 (15) vs FERNANDO ZUNIGA / Ecuador / 28-9
(20)
10 rounds / Super Middleweight
KISS' "New York Groove" echoes as Brooklyn fighter Peter
Quillen enters the ring, hard-hitting Zuniga is a risky
move for the undefeated hometown fighter Quillen, for two
rounds each long-armed fighter kept their distance, by
round 3 Quillen had Zuniga timed enough to land lead
straight rights while slipping away quick enough to keep
from getting hit, this happened often, a cut opened under
Quillen's eye in round 3 due to to a headbutt, Zuniga grew
fatigued by round 7 while Quillen remained sharp enough to
clearly win the remaining rounds.
98-92, 100-90 twice - WINNER UD QUILLEN
PRZEMYSLAW
MAJEWSKI / Poland / 11-0 (7) vs ANTHONY PIETRANTONIO /
Youngstown / 6-3 (5)
6 rounds / Super Middleweight
A chorus of chants for Majewski eminate from the RED &
WHITE wave of Polish fans, not much by way of offense by
either guy until Majewski lands a solid 5 punch combo at
the end of round 3 which nearly doubles Pietrantionio over,
Majewski takes complete control of his iron-jawed, gutsy
yet entirely outclassed opponent through the rest of the
fight.
60-54 all - WINNER MAJEWSKI
DENIS DOUGLIN /
New Jersey / 6-0 (3) vs EDDIE HUNTER / Seattle / 3-1-1 (1)
6 rounds / Jr. Middleweight
Each fighter threw hard shots for the first two rounds as
the momentum muscled back and forth, Douglin remained
persistent in round 3 while Hunter displayed signs of
fatigue by lowering his hands and looking to clinch, a
straight left by southpaw Douglin rocks Hunter seconds into
round 4 which takes nearly everything out of him, Hunter
fades as Douglin presses forward not being able to put him
away.
59-55, 60-54 twice - WINNER UD DOUGLIN
PATRICK FARRELL
/ Jersey City / 4-0 (3) vs JON SCNEIDER / Bronx / 7-4-1 (5)
4 rounds / Cruiserweight
Southpaw Schneider gets dropped :30 into round 1 with a
left hook, he eats plenty of leather and grows visibly
weaker throughout but continues pressing on, Farrell
hammers the ex-Marine Schneider with clubbing vicious hooks
through the fight.
40-33, 40-34 twice, WINNER by UD PATRICK FARRELL
ISMAYL SILLAKH
/ Ukraine / 9-0 (8) vs LARRY PRYOR / Houston / 6-5 (4)
6 rounds / Light Heavyweight
Sillakh is crisp and accurate with his punches throughout,
Pryor lunges and wastes plenty of energy awkwardly
lumbering around the ring, round 3 Sillakh finally drops
Pryor with an overhand right in round 3, :47 into round 4
after a few more knockdowns Smoger decides to step in.
WINNER: ISMAYL SILLAKH, TKO :47 Round 3
SADAM ALI /
Brooklyn / 4-0 (2) vs JASON THOMPSON / Brooklyn / 5-4-1 (4)
4 rounds / Jr. Welterweight
Sadam Ali is simply awesome. I know Thompson from the
amateur ranks in NYC, he's tough and a very exciting
fighter with plenty of heart and skill. Ali picked him
apart each round barely getting hit in the process. If
there is one drawback in Ali's game it may be his lack of
one-punch KO power yet, he was so impressive tonight that I
barely even mentioned it.
40-36 all - WINNER by UD ALI
