MALIGNAGGI DESERVED THE DECISION...

Daniel Jacobs can only benefit from a rough fight like last night's fight against Ishe Smith. He will learn nothing if he keeps knocking guys out early. Great matchmaking. It was a tough fight, one in which Jacobs found himself hurt early on, but he overcame that and won comfortably on the cards. He isn't ready for the best at 160 lbs., but this will act as a good learning experience for him. While he seemed to lack his usual pop, his work rate was very impressive. He got hit clean too often, his hands need to be kept up, and he has to stop hanging the jab out there.

I felt that Roberto Guerrero put in a questionable performance. I was trying to figure out why he was fighting on the back foot, throwing pitter patter punches instead of sitting down hard which is what he usually does. When it was brought to my attention that he did indeed break his hand as early as the fourth round, it all started to make sense. ...  Considering the quality of his opposition in Klassen, and how he was not only dealing with family issues but a broken hand also, he did very well to come out of that fight unscathed. Guerrero boxed beautifully, and his lateral movement was very impressive. Can't wait to see more of Guerrero, hopefully next time he'll be able to shoot the left hand with conviction.

I felt that Paulie Malignaggi deserved the decision. I have no issues with the scorecard that had Juan up by 2 points, but there is no justifying that bull&%$# scorecard 118-110. Nobody dominated the fight to such an extent, and a little bit of home cooking was clearly going. Paulie redeemed himself after a series of poor showings with training Buddy McGirt, arguably the worst trainer in Boxing today, and I hope he earns a lot of money before he retires.

As for Juan Diaz, it's back to the drawing board. He put on a lackluster performance. His aggression was not there, and it seems as though a more accomplished boxer than Paulie would cruise past him. A far cry from the performance we saw against Marquez. Perhaps he struggled to motivate himself for this one, since he was a heavy favorite.
