WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO JABS HIS WAY TO VICTORY!

The heavyweight division cleared itself up a little today, thanks to a solid showing by IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko,  (49-3, 44 KO's), who decimated former power house/former world champion Lamon Brewster (33-4, 29 KO's) on Saturday night at the Köln Arena in Cologne, Germany.

"Dr. Steelhammer' put on an impressive performance, letting it be known from the opening bell that he was there to avenge his 2004 loss to Lamon Brewster. It was not just about this fight, it was about his pride and his legacy, he said, and he didn't leave anything to the imagination.

Klitschko's jab was a thing of beauty, a bit slow but on target and quite repetitive. It seemed to overwhelm Brewster, who was never able to mount any type of offense or defense for that matter.

Lamon has little else to prove in the ring, and considering today's  lackluster showing, it may be advisable he opts for early retirement.

While on that subject, let's give props to Buddy McGirt, who wouldn't allow his man to take unnecessary punishment, pulling the plug after 6 solid rounds of one-sided scoring by Klitschko. Buddy's actions allow the fighter to go out on his shield -save face if you will- while at the same time the trainer and former world champion displays his own humanity. (He did same with Gatti, remember?) I appreciate and respect you a lot for that, Buddy.

Also, kudos for a great post-fight exchange between Larry Merchant and Klitschko. (This is the kind of work HBO will never, ever get out of  Max Kellerman)... Wladimir expressed his eagerness to earn the right to be known as the real heavyweight champion of the world, and did so without having to resort to insults or disrespect toward the other champion or any of the up and comers, either.  Classy and reflective of Wladimir Klitschko.

In the end, the Ukrainian didn't want to say who he wants to fight next, turning the table instead on Merchant/HBO and boxing fans the world over... Who would they want to see him fight next?, he asked.

Congratulations to Wladimir Klitschko and his team, and a job well done by Team Brewster as well.
