"BERNARD HOPKINS NEEDS DONALD DUCK"

Several weeks ago, undisputed middleweight champion of the world Bernard Hopkins made the following statement:

"My career is not based and predicated on me fighting Roy Jones,"
Hopkins said.
"I'm glad that I have three belts because that means I have three mandatories
a year and I can make $2 million or $3 million dollars every time I step in the ring with Donald Duck. I can deal with that."

Well, Donald Duck must be on vacation because instead Hopkins will have to defend against the ever so popular Morrade Hakkar, and it won't be for anywhere close to $2 million dollars.

Don King won the purse bid set up by the WBC in its Executive Offices in Mexico City. Bernard is in high demand, only two bids were submitted, and King's $1,501,000.00 took the brass ring. The purse split will be 75% for Hopkins or $1,125,750 and 25% for Hakkar, or $375,250. AB Stars Production of France made a losing bid of $1,411,000.

Bernard once said, and I paraphrase "if my ship is going to sink, I'll sink it." From the look of things he is staying true to his word. If the unconfirmed reports have any truth to them, Hopkins was offered a sweet deal at HBO to fight Roy Jones, Jr. and one mandatory defense for close to $9 million dollars. Not enough, said the masked one. Let's shop over at SHOWTIME, who allegedly offered him a bit more money on the condition that he'd pay Don King. No way! said the cantankerous fighter.

Hopkins has already ruffled RJJ's feathers, and in reality, in spite of all his bravado, refused to meet Jones for a reported $6 million dollars. El gran campeón has retired and if one is to take a quick look at the challengers in the middleweight division, it will become painfully obvious that unless Donald Duck decides to take him on, Bernard will be fighting for 'minimum wages' and attracting few flies.

Meanwhile he is facing TWO lawsuits which will keep his attorneys quite wealthy... I mean, quite busy over the next few months. The Fishers, (Bouie and James), have moved on, showing great class, never uttering a negative word about Bernard, and letting the record speak for itself. DiBella Entertainment's President, Lou DiBella, continues to enjoy the fruits of his labor, as well as the respect of a great majority of the boxing community.

What was that about a sinking ship? Oh, and by the way, if any of you see Donald Duck, please let him know that Bernard Hopkins is looking for him...
