The ESPN Tuesday show traveled down Tampa way for a busy night of club fight action - and when the flailing ceased, it was split draws in the feature bouts... The main event saw a younger, quicker, southpaw slinging Damian Fuller looking good over the early stanzas, as he enjoyed the five inch height advantage while scoring from the outside with combinations off the jab.

  • LORENZO EXPRESS PUZZLES CAMPBELL... by George Elsasser
When ten rounds of Lorenzo in a non-stop "energizer bunny" mode offense that totally confused the slicker technician Campbell, it would enter the books as Lorenzo 97-91, 96-93 - (Campbell 95-94) - for the split decision win.

  • PACQUIAO SLIPS, SLIDES, SLUGS TO TKO WIN... by George Elsasser

  • TACKIE MAKES A TRANSITION IN STYLE ON HIS WAY TO AN EASY WIN OVER ALGARIN... by Oleg Bershadsky
Ben “Wonder” Tackie is at that crucial point of his career where he has to change his style in order to prolong his boxing longevity and save himself the tremendous punishment his warrior style often inflicted on him. His opponent, Edwin Algarin, a relatively inexperienced and safe fight choice...

  •
  • TACKIE DECISIONS ALGARIN... by George Elsasser
And so it went over the opening five stanzas with Tackie the aggressor and Algarin in something of a pacifist role … Wasn’t until stanza seven that the age 25 Algarin gave the offense a try - and the belated show of movement mixed with flurries served him well - but too little too late.

  • THE CONTENDER FINALE... Sharkie's Machine by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
Boxing fans like the show because the contestants are all pro fighters in a division dominated by the likes of Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright. For fight fans, this show gives a glimpse of what professional boxing COULD be if it were administered in a way that rewards merit over popularity. Imagine if pro boxing employed an elimination, box-off style format?

  • SERGIO MORA BECOMES 'THE CONTENDER'S" TRUE CHAMPION
Sergio "The Latin Snake" Mora, 25, became the winner of one million dollars, a beautiful  Toyota Tundra and an official "Contender" championship belt after beating Peter Manfredo Jr. for the better part of their seven round match.

  • HOLT SPLIT-DECISION WINNER OVER RANGEL ... by George Elsasser
Kendall Holt ~ The positives are there, youth, size, punching power from both sides, skills and quickness. However, the other side of the coin translates to soft chin, and worse yet, a hint there’s an aversion to being hit in return.

  • KELLEY SHOWS FLASHES OF PAST IN DECISION WIN... by George Elsasser
Was a younger "Flushing Flash" that claimed the featherweight title over Gregorio Vargas some 11 years ago, but the today age 37 version displayed enough flashes to keep a flickering flame alive for still another title run... Kelley punctuated the win with a counter right hook knockdown of Reyes in stanza nine that summed things up in a surprisingly closely scored affair...

  • BELL NIPS BROWN FOR IBF TITLE... by George Elsasser
The ESPN2 Friday Nite Fite tour found its way to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at Hollywood, Florida for a busy evening of fistic fury - and when the smoke cleared, it was O’Neil Bell squeaking by Canadian cowboy Dale Brown for the vacant IBF Cruiserweight title.

  • BELL WINS QUESTIONABLE VERDICT OVER BROWN... by Jim Amato
All I can say is unbelievable. O'Neil Bell is the new I.B.F. cruiserweight champion by virtue of a gift decision over Dale Brown. Check out this scoring...115-113, 116-112 and an almost ridiculous score of 117-111 all for O'Neil Bell.

  • BELL EDGES BROWN, CLAIMS IBF BELT IN SPIRITED AFFAIR... by Chris Robinson

  • WEBB HALTS CELAYA; DONAIRE STOPS VILLALOBOS... by George Elsasser
Come round four, the pedigree guy Celaya, is seen resting on his derriere courtesy of a straight right hand from the expected pigeon with the questionable rap sheet... Suddenly we have a fight going on … and a nasty cut eye in stanza five from inadvertent clash of heads
    ...

  • GREEN SPARKLES IN SHOBOX WALK IN THE PARK... by George Elsasser
Last noche’s ShoBox drop by to Buffalo Run, Oklahoma promised fireworks - with emphasis on unbeaten jr. welterweight Americo Santos - but then along came Super-Middleweight Allen Green in a sparkling walk in the park show stopper.

  • CALZAGHE STOPS VEIT IN SIX... by Jim Amato
Calzaghe is a good fighter. You don't get to 39-0 without some serious talent. Still Joe is on the downside of a fine career. He deserves a nice, big payday.

  • WALTERS WAS THE TRUTH TONIGHT... by Kenny Perrault, ringside
Minnesota's Light heavyweight champion Zach Walters met Jesse Sanders in the main event. Both fighters gave it their all throughout the eight round bout, giving as good as they were getting.

Powell (16-0, 10 KOs), of Brooklyn, N.Y., won the quickest fight in “ShoBox” history.  At the opening bell, both fighters swung and connected, knocking each other down.  The referee ruled, possibly incorrectly, that both fighters slipped.

  • 'A DOUBLE KNOCKDOWN' STARRING SECHEW POWELL AND CORNELIUS  BUNDRAGE... Sharkie's Machine by Frank Gonzalez
Both guys hit the canvas simultaneously. It was a double knockdown! They both got up so quickly and were scuffling in a clinch that the referee didn’t even bother to call it a knockdown. How he missed that call, times two—was amazing.

  • POWELL, FOREMAN REMAIN UNBEATEN... by George Elsasser
There was nothing dull about last noche’s ShoBox offering from Foxwood’s Resort, in Connecticut that featured a quartet of undefeated jr. middleweights - and when the firefighting ceased it was Sechew Powell and Yuri Foreman remaining untarnished.

  •
  • MARQUEZ SCHOOLS POLO BY UNANIMOUS DECISION... by George Elsasser
The Saturday Showtime title twin bill opened with defending WBA/IBF featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez in a masterful boxing exhibition, while schooling challenger Victor Polo over 12 stanzas, to the tune of 120-107, 119-108, 118-109.

The official scorers saw it 116-11, 115-112 and 118-108.

  • PETER BATTERS MARTINEZ FOR TKO WIN... by George Elsasser
Soothing the belly ache, however, was in seeing a much publicized new face heavyweight, and son of past tough guy heavy Randall "Tex" Cobb - and if "Tex" was bankrupt in the skills department, the 19 year young offspring inherited the handicap. Baby Joshua has to be the saddest excuse of all licensed professional fighters I have ever seen.

  • PETER PREVAILS WITH POWER, DIAZ CONTINUES CLIMBING THE LADDER, DE LEON IS BACK
Samuel Peter continued his winning ways in the Heavyweight Division, dropping Gilbert Martinez in the third round and finishing things up moments later. The first two rounds were short on drama and in the end the only thing that stood out was Peter’s power, as he dropped his man...

  • OSCAR DIAZ WINS A THRILLING TEN-ROUND DECISION OVER FELICIANO
Oscar showed tremendous heart and he's definitely the kind of fighter that fans will always want to see. I have a feeling he will be involved in several fights like the other night, those two tore the house apart. The really put on a show, and that makes him one of the most marketable young fighters in boxing.

  • JULIO GONZALEZ RULED WINNER IN ELIMINATION BOUT... by Jim Amato
Rugged ex-champion Julio Gonzalez was awarded a six round technical decision over another former title holder Montell Griffin. It was a somewhat sloppy contest, lots of holding and wrestling. Throw in some low blows and headbutts.

  • PETER BATTERS MARTINEZ FOR TKO WIN... by George Elsasser
Soothing the belly ache, however, was in seeing a much publicized new face heavyweight, and son of past tough guy heavy Randall "Tex" Cobb - and if "Tex" was bankrupt in the skills department, the 19 year young offspring inherited the handicap.

    ...

  • 'NIGHT OF THE KNOCKOUT' A SUCCESS!... by Mike Leanardi
"Wednesday Night at the Fights" at the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame maybe should have been tagged, "Night of the Knockout" as all four bouts on the card came to an early stoppage.

  • BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING CONTINUES TO THRILL BOXING FANS... by Vittorio M. Gomez
The night’s main event that had the making of a classic Cicero brawl, Michoacan, Mexico native undefeated Jose Armando Santa Cruz, 19-0 (9KO’s) matched up against Uganda favorite Justin Juuko, 39-9-1.

  • WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO MAKES A COMEBACK WITH A KNOCKOUT VICTORY... by Oleg Bershadsky
What some thought would perhaps turn into another upset instead turned into a completely one sided affair. Klitschko, the bigger man, was the aggressor which was not awfully difficult since he was the only one throwing any punches.

Indonesia's Chris John battled back from an early knockdown to retain his WBA featherweight title against America's Derrick Gainer in Jakarta.

  • KLITSCHKO STOPS CASTILLO IN FOUR... by George Elsasser
Merchant wrapped up the show at ringside with Lampley, and suggested only until Wlad is tagged again on the chin will we really know, "the rest of the story." I’ll drink to that.

  • WLADIMIR CRUSHES CASTILLO... by Jim Amato
Wladimir Klitschko put himself back into thick of the heavyweight picture by halting previously unbeaten Eliseo Castillo in the fourth round.

  • GUINN, AHUNANYA HUG-A-THON A MAJORITY DRAW... by George Elsasser
The ESPN2 gang used its FNF offering to hawk its Saturday PPV card prior, during, and after heavyweights Dominick Guinn and Friday Ahunanya went ten rounds to a majority standoff - a non-event that more resembled a 1930s dance hug-a- thon, than a critical must winner.

  • THINGS LOOK GRIM FOR DOMINICK GUINN... Sharkie's Machine by Frank Gonzalez
Considering his last performance, it’s clear that Dominic Guinn no longer has the desire to fight for a living. He talked a good game before the fight but never translated any of that talk into action when it was time to fight. His last performance was a “Disaster.”

  • MORUA DOMINATES KIM, FROCH WEARS DOWN PORRAS... by Tom Dickey, ringside...

  • KINGSLEY IKEKE'S JAB TKO'S ECHOLS IN 10... Sharkie's Machine by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
In boxing, everything flows from the jab. Kingsley Ikeke (23-1-0-13 KO’s) demonstrated that to perfection Friday night at the Northern Quest Casino in Washington State, where he took on former IBF Middleweight Champ, Antwun Echols (31-6-1-27 KO’s) for the number two ranking in the IBF.

  • IKEKE 'RAT-A-TAT' A TKO WINNER... by George Elsasser
The taller Nigerian with the "Sharp Knuckle" sobriquet has a slight edge in five, but more importantly was a noticeable sign of damage to the Echols right orbit that had become visibly puffy... Ikeke enjoyed the target with an increased rat-a-tat of accurate jabbing and occasional straight right hands.

  • ROBERTO BENITEZ MAKES IT OFFICIAL ... by Chris Robinson
In the madness of Jorge Barrios’ surprising knockout over ‘Mighty’ Mike Anchondo, we were witness to a young man making his first venture into the pro game. Roberto Benitez decisioned a very game Jenkens Alvarez, winning a 40-36 decision on all 3 judges’ cards.

The bout was televised on Fox's, "The Best Damn Sports show period."

  • A TOAST TO 'THE GHOST'... Sharkie's Machine by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
Many times, when Prospects gets a lot of positive press, they don’t usually live up to the hype. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, now 15-0-1-8 KO’s absolutely lived up to his press by the time I finally got to see him fight. After hearing so much about this young,

  • GUERRERO STOPS VALDEZ IN STRONG OUTING... by George Elsasser
It was all Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero in a ShoBox battle of southpaws with Adrian Valdez in what was more a Guerrero showcase than a serious stepping stone to bigger and better things... While both fighters mirrored one another in style over the early going, it was clear  the bigger
    ...

  • FELIX STURM: TOO GOOD FOR HIS OWN GOOD... by Mike Leanardi
In the nine months since his “loss” to De la Hoya, Sturm has been hoping to get a call against a big name opponent in the United States to prove himself again, no such luck. Instead he has been forced to fight quality, but not world-class opponents, in his homeland of Germany

  • JUAREZ DISPATCHES RAMIREZ IN OPENING STANZA... by George Elsasser
Juarez set up the first of three knockdowns with the jab and body punches before countering a Ramirez jab with a perfectly executed straight right hand to the jaw. Ramirez beats the count, but Juarez is quickly on top of him with a flurry of power punches …

Koba the southpaw, entered the ring at 17-0, 7 KO’s while Almazbek A.K.A. 'Kid Diamond' arrived with résumé of 19-0 with 11 by knockout - and over the opening three stanzas it was the quicker moving Gogo taking batting practice on the slow but bigger punching 'Kid Diamond.'

  • BEYER PREVAILS IN GREEN REMATCH... by Darren Yates from Down Under
I’ll start off with eating a large slice of humble pie as I said I could not see how Marcus Beyer would be able to beat Danny Green. • PEDEN STOPS CAMPBELL IN THE 8TH IN MELBOURNE... by Darren Yates from Down Under
Normally after a victory like this by an Australian boxer I would be celebrating very loudly and maybe even completing a victory lap of my lounge room. I certainly was hoping for Peden to punish and stop Campbell after all of his complaining and trash talk following his first bout with Robbie Peden...

  • AN EVENING OF BOXING BEGINS TRAGICALLY  IN ST. PAUL MINNESOTA... by Mike LeTourneau

  •  MARGARITO HALTS OVERMATCHED LUJAN IN STANZA 10... by George Elsasser
Antonio Margarito ~ Next on the horizon is undefeated, but untested Kermit Cintron of 24 wins with 22 stops. A pairing that should result in a tell all for both winner and loser. Zab Judah is the ultimate target, but feelings here is the Brooklyn southpaw’s speed would prevail were it to come off.

  •
  • MIGHTY MIKE IN SHAKY DECISION WIN... by George Elsasser
The big plus for the Athens, Greece raised southpaw is just that, he works from the port side, and has some quickness of hand and foot when dictating the choreography - but the pre-fite yak about "new found" power proved laughable off last noche’s offering.

  • GROWING PAINS FOR 'MIGHTY' MIKE ARNAOUTIS... Sharkie's Machine by Frank Gonzalez Jr.

It’s hard to bet against desperate people, because they are willing to do anything to get out of their current situation.
