SAMUEL PETER vs
JAMEEL McCLINE
- A BRC EXCLUSIVE DIRECTORY
In an entertaining thriller that almost became a huge upset,
Samuel Peter,
(28-1, 22
KOs), holds on to the
WBC Interim title recently
bestowed upon him. Peter had to work hard for his money; he was
down
once in the second round and twice in the third. The
Nigerian champion looked hurt and beaten;
however, he managed to turn the
fight around and score a unanimous decision win over
Jameel
McCline,
(38-7-3, 23 KOs).

Ironically, it was the Harlem, New York veteran bringing the
crowd to its feet late in stanza two with a counter right
uppercut that resulted in flash knockdown - and then
improved on it in round three when dropping Peter again -
not once but twice.
The round
three McCline fireworks had Peter dazed and ready to be put
to bed - but try to drop the curtain as he did, the bell
would come to the rescue.
The last time a Heavyweight got dropped three times in a big
fight and won was when Wladimir Klitschko got dropped three
times by Sam Peter but still out-boxed Peter and put enough
rounds in the bank to win the fight.
Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, Sam Peter (29-1,22
KO’s) gave an exhibition of himself that could become the
blueprint for future opponents on how best to beat him. Peter
keeps his hands too low on defense and is vulnerable to
uppercuts and hooks.

SAM PETER QUOTES FROM SHOWTIME TELECAST
“I have to stay focused because I am coming into my
time, the time that I have been waiting for in my career.
Now, I am the Heavyweight Champion of the World. I will
fight anyone who comes my way.”
“If
they are counting on Samuel Peter not being in shape, they
are in for a rude awakening. This is the longest that
Samuel has ever been in training camp for a long time and
he will be in the best shape of his life. Translation,
it’s over for Oleg’s Cinderella story.”

“I’m coming here (NYC) to win. I’m a big heavyweight and I proved myself
against (Mike) Tyson. A lot of people said Kevin McBride wouldn’t beat him and
I did. Talk is cheap and I have to do it October 6..."
For now, at least, Irish heavyweight champion Kevin “The Clones
Colossus” McBride is best known as the fighter who knocked
“Iron” Mike Tyson into retirement. McBride, however, can
change his legacy if he defeats Andrew Golota on October
6, and then eventually attains his nearly lifelong dream
of becoming the first Irish-born heavyweight champion of
the world.
