WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO - SAMUEL PETER EXCLUSIVE DIRECTORY
HEAVYWEIGHTS: 'SHAKE IT UP!'... by
Jim Amato
Wladimir Klitschko's gutsy decision victory over the feared Sam
Peter proved three things. One, that Wlad could survive against a proven
puncher. Two, that Sam Peter is not a fluke. He's just a little rough
around the edges. Three, this fight was just the beginning of a series of
upcoming heavyweight match ups that are sure to shake up and shape the
heavyweight division going into 2006.
KLITSCHKO BEATS PETER IN A NIGHTMARE OF A FIGHT... by Oleg Bershadsky
Wladimir Klitschko earned a unanimous decision victory (114-111 on all three
scorecards) over Sam Peter in a 12 round WBO heavyweight elimination bout. This
fight exposed both fighters’ weaknesses and at the same time exhibited some of
their hidden strengths.
KLITSCHKO-PETER: QUOTES OF THE NIGHT ...
by Chris Robinson
This
weekend on HBO we witnessed two meaningful fights in the Heavyweight and Jr.
Welterweight divisions as Wladimir Klitschko decisioned Samuel Peter over
twelve rounds while Miguel Cotto retained his WBO belt via 7th
round TKO in an all out war against late replacement Ricardo Torres...
KLITSCHKO FINESSES PETER FOR DECISION
WIN... by George Elsasser
"...Klitschko, even with a clearly
won unanimous decision, had moments hinting of a pending "Lamon Brewster"
replay - the psyche cannot be hidden - and at times during the strategic holding
episodes, the eyes and expression had the abandon ship look about it."
COTTO ANSWERS ADVERSITY... Sharkie's Machine by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
Cotto was pure class during the post fight interview; crediting Torres for
being a tough opponent and admitting, he still has room for improvement or he
wouldn’t have suffered the knockdown in the second round. He didn’t call anyone
out. He never does. I wish he would. Cotto appears more interested in being a
good soldier who goes along with whomever his handlers put in front of him than
an ambitious Champion who wants to rule the division.
VLADIMIR KLITSCHKO SHOWS HIS QUALITY... Sharkie's Machine by Frank
Gonzalez Jr.
Vladimir Klitschko
(45-3-0-40 KO’s) demonstrated that it's better to have good boxing skills than
just a big punch, as he used movement, his jab and the old one, two combination
to frustrate and win a decision victory over dangerous, up and coming, Samuel
Peter (24-1-0-21 KO’s).
KLITSCHKO SURVIVES THE PETER BLITZ;
COTTO OUT SLUGS TORRES
Tonight at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City we were treated to a
nice doubleheader on HBO as Wladimir Klitschko captured one of his biggest
win in years over Nigerian Buzzsaw Samuel Peter...
COTTO REMAINS CLEAN WITH KO WIN... by George Elsasser
The book on Cotto is, while young at age 24, he performs like a seasoned
veteran that has long graduated all available pugilistic schools of learning -
but once again he displayed extras that have special scribbled over him.
KLITSCHKO - PETER A CURIOSITY PIECE... by George Elsasser
A win, and the early money has Peter a 7-5 favorite, the plodding bomber has
nowhere to go but into the frying pan with big brother Vitali - a bad move that
would likely place the "Nigerian Nightmare" on the back pages of yesterday’s
news.
MIGUEL COTTO: MORE HYPE THAN TALENT?... by Jeff Mayweather
I’ve always thought that Cotto was a good fighter but I have also felt that he
has been more hype than talent. He is a very good fundamental fighter with solid
skills, but there are some weaknesses to him.
WILL POWER AND BELIEF CARRY THE DAY
FOR SAMUEL PETER?... by Jeff Mayweather
The Samuel Peter-Wladimir Klitschko fight is one that I have been looking
forward to for a good while now. It is one of the most important and meaningful
Heavyweight match ups in a long time and I personally feel it will turn out to
be a war due to the contrasting styles that each man carries into the ring.
On September 24th in Atlantic City, New Jersey,
Wladimir Klitschko will face the man who many see as the possible future of the
heavyweight division, Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter. This fight is
certainly important to both fighters, but for Klitschko it means the difference
between perhaps another chance at the championship or facing the reality of
having to retire from boxing.
MIGUEL COTTO: THE RISE OF THE MACHINE... by Chris Ackerman
The most talented, gritty and professional prospect in the sport of boxing
returns to the ring in less than a week. Miguel Angel Cotto is young,
dashing, highly skilled and has taken out 20 of the 24 opponents he’s faced,
yet, very little has been written about his upcoming test. It is a credit to
Cotto’s team that they managed to salvage their man’s slot on the
Klitschko-Peter card after Gianluca Branco pulled out with an injury.
COTTO HOLDS AN OPEN WORKOUT IN NEW
YORK CITY
WBO Super lightweight champion Miguel Cotto enjoyed a spirited workout with his
trainer Evangelista Cotto today at Crunch Fitness in Manhattan in preparation
for his world title defense against unbeaten Ricardo Torres set for this
Saturday night, September 24, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO: FINALLY TAKING A RISKY
FIGHT... by Tom Dickey
There was a time before Wladimir Klitschko stepped into the ring with Corrie
Sanders that Wladimir was the big name Klitschko. Not as many had heard of
Vitali like they had Wladimir, and most thought that Wladimir would the brother
who would eventually win heavyweight gold. But, things changed after that fight.
WLADIMIR -vs-PETER: SOMETIMES HISTORY
REPEATS ITSELF... by Jim Amato
Back in the late 60's a heavyweight from Fresno, CA. named Mac Foster
had reeled off something like 25 straight KO's. It was even rumored that
he had flattened Sonny Liston in a sparring session. He rose to the #1
spot in the heavyweight rankings behind champion Joe Frazier.
KLITSCHKO vs PETER: A TRUE HEAVYWEIGHT TOSS UP...
by Stephen Jones
All speculation aside, if
you honestly think Wlad is done, to what extent is he done? If you are
banking on Samuel’s power, you are basing it against a row of heavyweights who
aren't nearly in this opponent’s class. If either man lands early it could be
curtains, but if goes into deeper waters who will be eating waves? It’s a
hell of a match up!
