Finnish jr. welter
Juho Tolppola, 21-4, headlined P 3 Boxing's show in Helsinki
tonight and beat Argentinean Walter Sergio Gomez on a
unanimous decision over ten. It was scored 100-91, 99-92 and
100-90. In the co-feature Russian jr. welter prospect Dennis
Shafikov outscored American Shawn Gallegos also over ten.
Swedish female welter Anna Ingman, 4-0, stopped outclassed and
much smaller Russian pro debutant Irina Galchenko in the
third.
The EBU title fight
between fly champ Andrea Sarritzu and challenger Bernard Inom
set for April 26 has been postponed and will now go ahead May
3. Site remains Sassari on the island of Sardinia.
Sebastian Sylvester
vs Amin Asikainen II have been named EBU title fight of the
year for 2007. In the fight Sylvester regained the title with
a hard fought stoppage of the Finn.
Arena Box Promotion's
show in Trabzon, Turkey, have been postponed for one day and
will now go ahead April 26. Selcuk Aydin vs Lucky Lewele in a
WBC Int'l. welter bout. Heavies Steffen Kretschmann and
Odlanier Solis both fight Georgian opponents in Zurab
Noniashvili and Mamuka Jikurashvili respectively. Middleweight
Mahir Oral returns after a layoff to cure his broken hand and
Konstantin Airich is also on the bill.
Dutch-Nigerian jr.
lightweight/lightweight Innocent Anyanwu won the Dutch jr.
light title on Sunday April 13 in the Hague with a points win
over Czech Araik Sachbazjan. Next up for Innocent is a fight
in Rotterdam April 19, described by his management as an "easy
one". Then on May 1 in Bruges, Belgium, the champ fights an
eight rounder against "a good opponent." After that Innocent
defends the BeNeLux June 7 in Geeraertsbergen, Belgium,
against Agonic Jamkothian.
Norwegian jr. welter
Geir Inge Jorgensen might still challenge for the vacant WBF
title - but not until September.
Russian promoter
German Titov have heavies Dennis Bahktov vs Robert Daniels for
the vacant PABA title topping the bill May 22 in St
Petersburg. Jr middle Kuvanych Toygonbaev is featured on the
undercard.
Italian super
middleweight Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye is featured on the undercard
to Petrucci vs Lauri June 7 in Rome.
Chris Gaffney, a one
time Golden Gloves champ trained by Jackie McCoy, passed away
April 17 due to liver cancer. Gaffney had to quit boxing due
to an eye injury and turned to his second love: music. Chris
was a very respected artist in his own right, but late in his
career hit the big time with Hacienda Brothers playing all
over the world with their special mix of hard core Honky Tonk
and old school soul music.
