Boxing's popularity in the state of
Minnesota has had its highs and lows. In the past ten
years the sport has once again regained its popularity in
the state and one boxer who played a very important role
in that is Zach "Jungle Boy" Walters from Duluth,
Minnesota. While the name Zach Walters may not have been a
household name throughout the boxing community, he had one
of the largest and most loyal fan bases in the state of
Minnesota. Win
or lose his fans stuck by him 100% and the reason for that
is simple, Walters always gave his all in the gym, the ring, and
in life.
Northern Minnesota is known for its
mild summers and harsh winters, not for professional prize
fighters. Zach Walters and his team had a plan to change
that.
Starting his career in 2002 the 6' 4"
light heavyweight made an immediate impact on the fans
with his exciting fighting style, as well as his
commitment in the ring. As the years
passed Walters began to ascend the light heavyweight
rankings, reaching as high as 13th by the WBC in 2008. As
Walters climbed the light heavyweight ladder the crowds he
drew grew bigger and bigger, the fans poured out to
support the hometown hero.
"Jungle Boy" Walters had one of the
largest and most loyal fan bases in the state, they always
backed him 100% and the reason for that is simple,
Walters always gave 100% in the gym, the ring, and in
life.
Zach Walters retired this past Saturday
night after losing via first round knockout to Larry
Sharpe. He finished his career with a record of 24-5 (19
KO's). Along the way Walters collected the Minnesota State
Lt. Heavyweight title, WBC-ABU Light Heavyweight title,
and the NABA US Light Heavyweight title.
I had the pleasure of not only covering
many of his fights but also got a chance to know the
person outside of the ring. and I challenge anyone not to
like Zach Walters. He was always great to his fans and
never had a bad word to say about anyone. We at
Braggingrightscorner.com would like to thank Zach Walters
for his hard work and dedication in the ring and for the
many great boxing memories.
Zach, we thank you and wish you nothing
but the best as you enter this new phase in your life.
