The Myth
Nightclub in Maplewood, Minnesota hosted an entertaining night of boxing on Friday
night featuring Matt "The Predator" Vanda against Ted Muller.
At the weigh ins the day before
Muller came in 9 pounds heavier then Vanda who was fighting at super
middleweight for the first time in his career. Rather then make Muller take the
weight off, Vanda replied, "It's all good." Being the smaller man and fighting
at a new weight class didn’t seem to bother Vanda on fight night, as he looked
impressive throughout most of the bout.
Vanda opted to move in and out,
throwing combinations rather than mixing it up with Muller. Muller did have his
moments but Vanda picked off most of his shots with smart defense using a high
guard that picked off Muller's punches. Muller began to lose steam in the
seventh round but refused to give up. As he slowed down Vanda picked up his
pace, landing flush shots that shook Muller on several occasions.
The eighth and final round proved
to be the best of the night as Vanda went in for the kill standing in front of
Muller throwing bombs. To Muller's credit he did his best to throw back, but
Vanda simply had too much offense for him. The bell rang to end the fight and
Matt Vanda's hands were raised in victory with the scores of 79-74 and 80-72
twice. With the impressive win, Matt Vanda improved his record to 41-9 (22 KOs)
while Ted Muller falls to 19-16-2 (9 KOs).
Matt Vanda will fight Phil "The
Drill" Williams September 26th, at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Brad Patraw fought game Javier
Segura in the co-main event. Patraw looked sharp in the early goings, seemingly
landing at will. Segura showed his heart by not going down and it looked like it
may have paid off half way through the fight as Patraw seemed to be getting
gassed, giving Segura the opportunity to start landing a few flush shots of his
own. In the end, Patraw's training paid off as he found his second wind and once
again started landing his punches and staggering Segura in the fourth round.
Patraw landed another flush combination forcing the referee to call a halt to
the bout at 2:47 of the fourth round. Brad Patraw improves his record to 6-0 (4
KOs) while Javier Segura falls to 4-17 (4 KOs).
Jose Hilario made his pro debut
an impressive one stopping Jon Swamberg only a minute into round one. A left
hook to the body send Swamberg down where he was counted out. Jose Hilario is
now 1-0 (1 KO) while Jon Swamberg is 0-1.
Cerresso Fort kept his record
perfect 7-0 (7 KOs) stopping Yancy Cuellar :56 second in the opening round with
a body shot.
Bobby Kliewer needed two
knockdowns and one round to stop his opponent John Turner. Bobby Kliewer
improves his record to 10-8 (5 KOs) while John Turner drops to 3-12.
