When: June 5th
Where: Manchester, England
Who: Kostya Tszyu 31-1 (25 KO's) and Ricky Hatton 38-0 (28
KO's)
At Stake: Tszyu's IBF Junior Welterweight title
Where to watch: Showtime
Prediction: It's a no brainier right? Kostya Tszyu hands down!
Well that’s not the case. Kostya Tszyu, 35, is not exactly a
young man anymore and you never know when father time is going to
rear his ugly head in and have an effect on a fighter's skills.
Tszyu will be fighting in Hatton's backyard which could have an
effect on the fight. What Hatton brings into the ring is youth,
power, and a great body attack. As for Tszyu he bring’s in
experience, power, and confidence. So my prediction is... unless
Kostya Tszyu suddenly gets old over night he should have no
problem with the young Ricky Hatton.
Winner: Kostya Tszyu Sixth Round TKO
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- When: June 11th
Where: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
Who: Miguel Cotto 23-0 (19 KO's) and
Mohammad Abdullaev 15-2 (12
KO's)
At Stake: Cotto's WBO Junior Welterweight title
Where to watch: HBO
Prediction: It's a rematch of sorts, Abdullaev beat Cotto in
the 2000 Olympics but that was amateur and we all know amateur
fights don't count once you turn pro. Cotto had a scary moment in
his last fight against DeMarcus Corley. Corley had Cotto in
serious trouble but could not get the job done, letting Cotto back
in the fight. Cotto turned the tables on Corley and scored a fifth
round TKO. As for Abdullaev, his professional career hit a bump in
2003 when Emmanuel Clottey stopped him in the tenth round. Cotto
needs to tighten up his defense or he could run into some trouble
again but I don't think Abdullaev will be the one to finish
Corley's job.
Winner: Miguel Cotto 7th round TKO
------------------------------------------------------------------- When: June 11th
Where: MCI Center, Washington, DC
Who: Mike Tyson 50-5 (44 KO's) and Kevin McBride 32-4-1 (27
KO's)
At Stake: Nothing
Where to watch: Showtime PPV
Prediction: Even though Mike Tyson is coming off an upset loss
to Danny Williams I can't see it happening twice. McBride has a
decent record as did Danny Williams but the upset won't be found
this time. Tyson's people picked the right guy and he will fall.
Winner: Mike Tyson 4th round TKO
