HATTON OVER PACQUIAO, REALLY?

By Kenny Perrault

We were at it once again this week on Facebook, taking polls and asking questions and like always our readers supplied us with great answers and knowledge of their own. If you would like to become our friend on Facebook you can do it by going to www.facebook.com/braggingrightscorner.com.

A no brainer

We asked the question, "Which weight class would you most like to see a Super Six tournament in?" and the answers poured in. 73% of the readers believe the welterweights (147 lbs.) would make for the best tournament while jr. welter (140 lbs.) and the heavyweights each received 10% of the voting while jr. middleweight (154 lbs.) came in with 7%. This question really was a no brainer as the welterweight division holds the most star power and talent with fighters like Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather, and Miguel Cotto to name a few. However, the truth is that a tournament at this weight class will never happen. With that much ego and star power they could never come to terms on money. The 140 lbs. weight class is probably the most likely candidate for such an event, if it ever happens again.

Ricky Hatton, really?

When we asked the question, "Which fighter has the best fan following?" I was sure Manny Pacquiao would win in a landslide but the people spoke in favor of Ricky Hatton with 56% of the voting. Manny Pacquiao surprisingly came in second with 44%. If you ask me the people got it backwards with this one. If you look at a Ricky Hatton fight you see plenty of Englishmen at the fights cheering their fellow countryman on and that is great, and Ricky Hatton does have a great fan base. But what needs to be said is that Filipinos do not have the same resources as people in the U.K. A great number of them simply don't have the money to travel across seas to attend Pacquiao fights. Manny Pacquiao has the entire weight of a country on his shoulders, so much so that every time he steps in a ring the crime rates in the Philippines drops like his opponents do.

Glen gets it "bad"

We took an early prediction poll and asked the readers who they liked in the upcoming Chad Dawson vs. Glen Johnson and the David Haye vs Nikolay Valuev fights. Chad Dawson can sleep easy at night knowing everyone picked him to be the winner by decision. Haye may not be able to sleep so easily as he only received 57% of the nods, and those who believe he will win the fight all picked him to win by decision. 43% believe Valuev will be the better man with 60% believing he will win in knockout fashion.

I agree with the readers on this one. Chad Dawson will win a decision over Glen Johnson this time without the controversy and I also believe David Haye will win via decision by using his hand and foot speed.

Walk far, far away

With the second postponement of the much anticipated fight between Kelly Pavlik and Paul Williams we asked, "Should Paul Williams wait for Pavlik's hand to heal or should he walk away from the fight all together?" Eighty-two percent of our readers agreed that Paul Williams needs to walk away from this fight and start looking elsewhere for a fight.

I agree with the readers. Paul needs to move on and try to establish himself in the ring against a different opponent. I know a win over Kelly Pavlik would have been huge for Paul Williams but a fighter can only wait so long. I do hope Pavlik's hand heals quickly so maybe one day we can finally see this middleweight showdown.

Less is more

We asked, "Will the Pacquiao - Cotto fight sell more pay-per-views than Mayweather - Marquez?" Not surprisingly 90% of you said no. The truth is that while less people will probably buy this fight I can promise you that you'll see more action in the first two rounds than you saw in all 12 rounds of the Mayweather -  Marquez match up.

The King keeps his crown

"Fighter of the week?"The honor went to "King" Arthur Abraham with 86% of the voting, while Carl Froch received 10%. Those of you who believe Andre Dirrell won the fight against Froch, you are not alone. Four percent of our readers spoke up nominating Dirrell as Fighter of the Week. I would have titled this one "A no brainer" but I did not want to repeat myself.

Margarito comeback?

We asked, "Ricky Hatton, Antonio Margarito, Winky Wright, and Roy Jones Jr., which of these fighters is most likely to once again be a world champion?" and you answered, giving Margarito the best chance at a successful return with 45% of the readers chiming in. Forty percent of those polled spoke in favor of Roy Jones Jr., while only 10% picked Winky Wright. As for Ricky Hatton, the future doesn't look bright for him in the eyes of the public, as only 5% believe he can make a comeback. While the fans picked Margarito to make the big comeback, most of them didn't seem very happy about it, proving that if you cheat In this sport and get caught, you will get no love. Margarito may have the best chance of becoming champion again but he has a long ways to go before the fans will accept him back.
