We asked the people if Floyd
Mayweather ever intended to make weight for his bout against Juan Manuel Marquez
and the people spoke very loudly. All who put in their two cents worth, felt
Mayweather never planned on making weight. However, most did agree it would have
made no difference in the outcome of the bout had Mayweather weighed in at the
contracted weight or not.
My feelings on the subject are
as follows... Had Floyd weighed in at the contracted weight, the fight
would not have been any different. Floyd would still had been the bigger man and
he would have still possessed the greater skills. Marquez didn’t seem to mind
that Floyd came in heavy; then again, Marquez was reportedly paid an additional
$300,000 dollars for every pound Floyd was over weight. Not a bad deal when you
think about it. I’m not even sure if the fight would have been different had
both Marquez brothers been in the ring together against Mayweather. So much for
drinking your own urine to catch on.
Who is the biggest threat to
Floyd Mayweather? Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, or Manny Pacquiao? This was the
question of the week and it warranted a lot of attention. Surprisingly, 76% of
the people felt Shane Mosley is the biggest threat to Mayweather, while
Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto each tied at 12%.
Why am I not surprised by this
outcome? It’s simple. Prior to the Mayweather-Marquez bout most fans seemed
fixated on a bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao. Every day I heard arguments
on why Pacquiao is the man that could finally put a loss on Mayweather's record.
So what happened? I’ll tell you what happened. The boxing world saw Shane Mosley
get in Floyd's face and call him out; and by getting in his face in such a way,
Sugar Shane stole "Money" Mayweather's thunder a little bit.
Shane Mosley did his best
version of Kanye West and it seemed to have worked, because Mayweather vs Mosley
is the fight fans now want to see. I must add that people saw what Floyd did to
a small great fighter and thus, many may think the same outcome would lie ahead
were Mayweather fight Manny Pacquiao. So, in the end, who gets the fight?
Mosley, Pacquiao or Cotto? The answer is simple, the man who brings the most
money to the table, that's who. (We’ll be running this question again after the
Pacquiao-Cotto fight takes place, since I have a feeling that depending on the
outcome the numbers may change drastically).
Speaking of Manny Pacquiao
versus Miguel Cotto, we ran an early prediction poll on who would win that fight
and Manny Pacquiao received 55% of the voting to Miguel Cotto’s 45%.
I believe this fight will be
action packed as long as it lasts. Anytime you have two men in the ring who are
not afraid to mix it up and have the power that these two carry, you are always
in for an exciting night of boxing.
My pick is Manny Pacquiao.
Freddie Roach will give Manny a game plan and it will be seek and destroy. I
can’t wait for November 14!
