MAYWEATHER WINS By Kenny Perrault, ringside |
Zab Judah and Floyd Mayweather Jr. met in the ring
tonight at the Thomas and Mack Center in a bout dubbed
“Sworn Enemies.” To the surprise of many, Zab Judah
got off to a great start in the early rounds landing
his straight left to Floyd's body and head. It
appeared that Zab Judah scored a knockdown in the
second round when Floyd's glove touched the canvas;
however, referee Richard Steele failed to call it.
As
the middle rounds approached, Floyd Mayweather began to
pick up the pace, taking over the rounds. With each
passing round Mayweather became more and more dominant,
grabbing a big lead on the scorecards. Round ten is a
round no one will soon forget. Zab Judah landed a hard
low blow followed with a blow to the back of
Mayweather's head. As Mayweather walked away in pain,
Roger Mayweather (Floyd's trainer and uncle) entered
the ring. It appeared that Roger was going after Zab
but he was never able to get close and Yoel Judah
(Zab’s trainer and father) cut Roger off as the two
began to fight. The ring soon became flooded with
cornermen and security as a mini riot broke out.
Riddick Bowe- Andrew Golota I quickly came to mind.
However, order was restored and the fight continued.
With Judah behind on the scorecards he came out fast
and swinging hard in the 12th and final round but it
was to little to late. The scores went 119-109, 116-112 and 117-111 all in
favor of the new IBF welterweight champion Floyd
Mayweather Jr. JORGE ARCE vs
ROSENDO ALVAREZ
WBA lightweight champion Juan Diaz kept his record
perfect with a 12 round unanimous decision over Jose
Miguel Cotto. Diaz kept constant pressure on Cotto
throughout the fight throwing punches in bunches. To
Cotto’s credit he was always game and willing to fight
but lacked the skills to keep Diaz away. The final
scores were 116-112, 117-112, and 118-110 all in favor
of Juan Diaz.
