The Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN hosted “High Stakes” Saturday night featuring Anthony “The Bullet” Bonsante against Andy “Kaos” Kolle for the Minnesota middleweight title. Both fighters threw punches with bad intentions from the opening bell. The taller Kolle looked to keep Bonsante at the end of his jab while Bonsante worked his way on the inside trying to rough Kolle up. Both Kolle and Bonsante landed flush shots in rounds one and two giving me the impression this fight was not going to go the distance and they didn’t disappoint. In the third round Kolle landed a crushing straight left hand that sent Bonsante hard to the canvas face first. It looked at first as if Bonsante was out cold but he some how regained his footing before referee Mark Nelson reached the ten count. However he was on shaky legs and when asked if he was okay continue Bonsante said no. With the win Andy Kolle picks up the Minnesota state middleweight title and improves his record to 18-2 (13 KO’s) while Anthony Bonsante drops to 32-11-3 ( 18 KO’s).

The co main event featured “Bad” Brad Patraw against Antwan “Superman” Robertson. Many people thought coming in this bantamweight battle between two undefeated fighters could steal the show. How ever the fight turned to out to be one sided. Patraw worked both head and body and was simply the busier fighter through out the six round fight. Robertson landed the occasional right hand but they were few and far between. In the end all three judges scored it for Patraw with the scores of 60-54 and 59-55 twice. Brad Patraw ups his record to 5-0 (3 KO’s) while Antwan Roberston falls to 4-1 (3 KO’s).

Middleweights Cerresso Fort and Joshua Rodriguez fought a very entertaining bout. Fort the more skilled of the two landed hard shots but Rodriguez was game and did his best to answer Forts offensive attacks. As Game as Rodriguez was he could only take so much punishment before giving in. The end came when Rodriguez got caught on the ropes and Fort landed a hard right hand. Rodriguez remained upright with help from the ropes forcing referee Mark Nelson to call a halt to the bout. Cerresso Fort stays perfect with the win at 5-0 (5 KO’s) while Joshua Rodriguez falls to 4-7 (3 KO’s).

Gary “Stone Cold” Eyer only needed one round to stop Scott Robinson. Eyer looked sharp landing combinations to head and body of Robinson. Gary Eyer improves to 5-0-1(4 KO’s) while the 39 year old Robinson falls to 3-9 (2 KO’s).

The opening bout of the night may have been the bloodiest as Patrick Cape squared off against Danny Schlienz. Cape wasted no time busting up Shlienz face. By the second round Danny Schlienz was wearing a crimson mask. In the third round Cape dropped Schlien z to the canvas and the fight was over. Patrick Cape is now 5-4 (3 KO’s) while Danny Schlienz falls to 7-16-1 (4 KO’s).

Midwest Sports Council deserves to be congratulated for putting on such a great card from top to bottom. Look for there next card April 18th at the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN featuring Matt Vanda and Jason Litzau.
