Unified 115 pound champion Vic Darchinyan met Jorge Arce last Saturday night in a so-called super fight.

Big fights between super flyweights don’t happen often, so this bout was really a treat to fight fans. As promised it was entertaining but more one sided than many thought it would be.

Vic Darchinyan has one of the most awkward boxing styles I’ve seen. His very unorthodox fight style is accompanied with strong power in both hands; like Darchinyan, Jorge Arce also brings power Into the ring.

It was clear from the opening bell that Darchinyan was the much stronger fighter as be backed Jorge Arce up with his power for the first two rounds. Arce began to find his groove in the third round, finally landing meaningful punches that slowed Darchinyan down for the time being. As the round passed Darchinyan continued to dominate Arce with his power and speed. To Arce’s credit he did have his moments but they were few and far between.

Arce’s solid chin kept him in the fight much longer than Darchinyan would have expected. Arce took solid punch after solid punch but continued to fight on. Darchinyan hit Arce with shots that would have stopped most in their tracks. However, in boxing a good chin simply is not enough. Going into the tenth round it was hard to score more than one round in favor of Arce.

The super fight slowly became a super showcase for WBC, WBA, and IBF super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan. At the end of the eleventh round Jorge Arce clearly was close to being completely worn down from the punishment taken throughout the fight. Arce's face was both bruised and cut. The ringside doctor had seen enough and stopped the bout with only one round left which was fine by me. It was apparent Arce didn’t have the fire power left to stop Darchinyan and there simply was no sense in letting Arce take any more punishment.

Vic Darchinyan is a beast at 115 lbs. and it looks as if his reign with last awhile.
