Sending out an
S.O.S
Once again we
received great feedback to our daily questions. We asked our readers, "Who can
beat the Klitschko brothers?" Well, David Haye and Alexander Povetkin each
grabbed 29% of the votes, leaving Eddie Chambers with 21%. Also getting 21% of
the votes was the answer "No one."
Here are my two
cents on the subject. Right now it appears the only two fighters that are a real
threat to the Klitschkos are themselves and I doubt the brothers will face each
other anytime soon unless they get a big, and I mean a big payday out of it. So
until Haye, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers prove me wrong we are stuck watching
these two giants destroy the heavyweight division one jab at a time.
Love him or hate
him you are spending your hard earned money watching him
We love to hear
what you think and no one brings out the fans' opinions better then Floyd
Mayweather. We asked the question: "Why are you buying Floyd Mayweather's
PPVs?" We gave the readers four options to chose from... A) To watch Floyd, B)
To watch Floyd's opponent, C) Hoping to see Floyd lose, and D) I watch all
boxing. We have some real die hard fans because answer D, "I watch all boxing"
received the most votes, with 44%; not surprisingly, "To watch Floyd" and "To
watch Floyd lose" each took 26% of the voting while "To watch his opponent only
received 4%."
The truth of the
matter is that boxing fans, the real ones, honestly do watch all the boxing they
can. Believe me, I've sat through plenty of fights that would have put the
average person to sleep, and I've asked myself, why am I still watching this?
And the answer is simple. Because I love boxing and as we all know anything can
happen at any second in this great sport.
As for Floyd
Mayweather, do I think he cares if people are watching him only to witness his
first professional loss? I don't think so, because if he has you watching, then
he has you spending your money to watch him. And with skills as good as his are,
sooner or later he'll turn you into a fan. It may not be right now, but ten
years from now you'll be saying to yourself I wish I would have respected his
talent when he was in his prime.
He is still the
middleweight champion, right?
We took an early
prediction poll and asked the question who wins the Kelly Pavlik vs. Paul
Williams fight? Well, the people have spoken, picking Paul Williams by a
landslide with 78% of the voting! Only 22% of the people believe Kelly Pavlik
will walk away the winner. With that I ask, Kelly Pavlik is still the
middleweight champion, is he not? Let's give the man some credit. He did beat
Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor when JT was doing just that, throwing his
punches with BAD INTENTIONS. He also holds a very impressive win over Edison
Miranda. Pavlik has fought most of his career at middleweight or above, while
Paul Williams has spent most of his career at welterweight. This fight is going
to be closer than most of you think, bet on it.
Promoters, are you listening?
We asked the
people if today's economy has had any effect on their decision to buy a boxing
PPV; the unanimous answer was not at all. What is stopping them is the horrible undercards the promoters keep feeding us time after time. I almost miss the days
of Butterbean on a fight card, at least then I knew I would be entertained
before the main event even if it was only four rounds!
Give us your
money, we'll place the bets for you
We asked the
people who they liked in last weekend's "Super Six" fights between Arthur
Abraham vs Jermain Taylor and Carl Froch vs Andre Dirrell and they got it right.
75% said Abraham would win, while 60% placed the victory on Froch. Next time I
go to Vegas I know where I'm going before I place any wagers.
50-50 Love
We asked who
deserves a bigger piece of the pie if they were to fight, Manny Pacquiao or
Floyd "Money" Mayweather, and once again we got great results. 56% of our
readers said let's be fair and split it right down the middle. 11% percent said
Manny deserves the bigger cut, and as for Floyd Mayweather 11% percent said he
should get the bigger share. However, I believe the people that got it right
were the 22% who said they should split it 40/40 and give the winner of the bout
the remaining 20%. Now, that's a new and interesting concept. Let's be honest,
the only thing bigger than a fighter's paycheck is a fighter's ego and they all
believe they deserve more than the other guy so let's just keep our fingers
crossed that a meeting between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. actually
happens.
