Went the HBO double header route over the Showtime
offerings figuring “Bad” Chad Dawson was in with a piece of cake in late sub
Epifanio Mendoza in for Adrian Diaconu - and that one took no fight expert to
know it would end short of the scheduled 12 round distance. Good move on my part to choose the Taylor- Pavlik
middleweight barn burner that brought both suspense and drama from start to
finish in the multi-middleweight baubles up for grabs.
by Mike Indri, RBF For the 10,000 plus in attendance at the Boardwalk Hall and the millions
watching on HBO, undefeated world middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and
undefeated top ranked challenger Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik brought their
best, and fought their best, in a world title fight reminiscent of Zale vs.
Graziano, Robinson vs. Basilio and Hagler vs. Hearns.
Taylor’s camp did well to choose to fight Kelly Pavlik, who
earned his position by impressively beating the highly
regarded slugger, Edison Miranda last May. Pavlik used good
boxing skills to make easy work of the dangerous Miranda and
winning by TKO in the seventh round. He proved himself worthy
of a shot at Jermain’s title.
KELLY PAVLIK BECOMES NEW WBO/WBC MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION...
by Oleg
Bershadsky
Kelly Pavlik earned an impressive seventh round knockout over former undefeated
middle weight champion Jermain Taylor after earlier tasting the canvas himself.
Pavlik showed incredible physical and mental toughness as he weathered several
onslaughts and a vicious knockdown that would have put most tough fighters away.
The way he carried himself throughout the entire fight makes him deserving to be
crowned champion.
HBO - SHOWTIME SATURDAY NIGHT - AND LET THE GAMES BEGIN...
by
George Elsasser
Could be a coin flip decision on which route to go this
coming Saturday night - HBO serves up a main event with
WBC/WBO middleweight champ Jermain Taylor in with young
hopeful Kelly Pavlik - Showtime counters with WBC l/heavy
champion Chad Dawson in its feature attraction with late sub
Epifanio Mendoza in role of fall guy.
Tough decision on which to give top priority for the fan
unable to go the VCR route.
On that note, let’s assist with the choice making...
by Elisa Harrison Who do I think will win tonight? I am going to make a daring
prediction but first let me tell you why. I believe that
HUNGER is a great motivator and in this fight, the hunger

THE CHAMPION HAS MORE TO PROVE THAN THE CHALLENGER...by Oleg
Bershadsky
This fight may actually be the
strange case where a tested champion has more to prove than
the challenger. Taylor has some impressive wins on his record,
most notably against Bernard Hopkins and Cory Spinks. Yet his
is the type of success that raises more questions, largely do
to the controversial nature of his wins. The controversial
draw with Winky Wright only adds to the doubts surrounding
Taylor’s ability.
TAYLOR - PAVLIK: AND THE WINNER IS...
by Jim Amato I look for Taylor to jump to an early lead but he has not
been in with power punchers like Kelly. It will be
interesting to see how Jermain holds up.
How will Taylor react when pressed and when the only alternatives he can show us
are these 'Bad Intentions' we keep hearing about or get knocked out?
It seems Jermain Taylor simply cannot be in an exciting fight and he has taken a
lot of heat for some performances and for some opponent choices...well all that
is about to change.
TAYLOR TOO SEASONED FOR PAVLIK...
by George Elsasser Personally I’m not all that convinced the Youngstown kid is ready to pull the
proverbial rabbit out of the hat. Puncher’s chance one may argue; maybe, maybe
not, since we haven’t as yet seen any cracks in the chin construction of Taylor
in some 28 unbeaten outings.
by Rizwaan Zahid
I think both fighters have a lot to prove in this fight.
Coming off a string of narrow victories along with a draw against Winky Wright,
Jermain needs to prove that he's the undisputed middleweight champion for a
reason. Kelly, however, has to show that he is not just hype. Many have simply
judged him based on his fight with Miranda.
TAYLOR:
“ He (Pavlik) comes straight forward and comes to
fight. He’s not a slick fighter, really. But he’s a game
guy.”
PAVLIK:
"I’ve had some big fights. Some fights have gone in the
later fight. Taylor has been there, but he dies down in the stretch.
He’s been in the late rounds but he’s not that great in the later rounds.
He has to stay at my pace. Can he be throwing or taking the 70, 80 or 90
punches a round?"
A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM JERMAIN TAYLOR TO HIS FANS:
(SEPTEMBER 29) IT IS NOT PPV.... IT IS FREE, IF YOU HAVE
HBO... BAD INTENTIONS FANS STAND UP!!!
HBO Sports is presenting
a thirty-minute special analyzing the upcoming middleweight title
fight between reigning champion
Jermain Taylor and fast-charging challenger
Kelly Pavlik. The highly
anticipated 160-pound bout is set for
Saturday, September 29th
at Boardwalk Hall in
Atlantic City and will
be carried live on HBO in one of the network's signature
broadcasts of the year.
JERMAIN TAYLOR: 'KELLY PAVLIK IS MY KIND OF
FIGHT' "From a style standpoint, my last couple of fights were
wrong for me, but they were fighters who stepped up to the
plate," Taylor said. "Kelly Pavlik is a fighter, just
like me. He comes to fight, no running, no holding. It's
about time. People are going to be surprised by what they
see on September 29th. I'm expecting a lot of fireworks in
the ring with Kelly Pavlik. This is my kind of fight."
September 29th, 2007...Will this be the day that puts
Youngstown, Ohio back on the fistic map? Undefeated knockout
artist Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik of Youngstown meets world's
middleweight champion Jermain Taylor who is also unbeaten.
This is the fight at 160 pounds that the fans wanted to see.
Kudos to the management of the fighters and the promoters
for putting this together. It reminds me of the old days
where a true champion meets the real #1 challenger.
Exactly one month after facing Berto,
Estrada will have been a pro for eight years and is well aware that he is
regarded as a stepping-stone in this match - a view he doesn't quite
share. “His camp might think so, but he knows he's in for a war and the fight
of his life," said Estrada.
ANDRE BERTO vs DAVID ESTRADA ADDED AS CO-MAIN EVENT TO TAYLOR-PAVLIK
Unbeaten welterweight Andre Berto (19-0, 16 KOs) will get a chance to prove why the critics are raving about
him...

Pavlik:
Emanuel, I can’t get mad at your prediction, you’re supposed
to say that. I will take no chances, there is no playing
around in this fight. I always put my best into it and I
can’t wait until September 29th, and there will be many more
after that.
I’m 25, I’ve got the experience also. If he wants to come
to fight, that is better for me. This is a great fight for
boxing. Styles make fights. I predict a win. I predict
pain.
Taylor:
All of
the talk motivates me. It motivates me when I get up early
in the morning to run. That’s all I think about. I am
going to train for 12-rounds and I am going to win this
fight. When all is said and done, I am going to win. Then
after I whip this boy, we’ll see what happens.
