TAYLOR - PAVLIK 2, WHO WINS AND HOW?
- AN EXCLUSIVE BRC POLL
PAVLIK - TAYLOR WEEK AFTER REVIEW... by George Elsasser
Pavlik (33-0, 29 KOs) ~ age 25 is the key to bigger and better
things. Has size at 6-2 and maybe couple more middleweight adventures as in
unify. For now, the toughness is real, the conditioning on the mark. Still, if
stepping up a rung at s/middle the need is in upgrading the arsenal with more
than a current jab-right hand two-punch combo. The left-hook a must addition to
the basic 1-2 that has sustained him to date. Were he mine, he’d be tossing
left-hooks at the heavy bag from dawn to sunset until it routinely arrives
behind the right hand.
PAVLIK-TAYLOR II: IT WAS A STRANGE NIGHT AT
THE MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA... by
Jocelyn Saurini @ ringside
The flight was close, and you couldn’t take your eyes off of it. Pavlik (33-0, 29 KOs) came on
strong in the early rounds, but Taylor (27-2-1, 17 KOs) fought back to
close out each round and then in the late-middle rounds as well. If you
were at the MGM with me, you would have heard my brilliant joke about
how Taylor’s late round flurries in the last thirty seconds were
symbolic of every man I’ve ever dated. The punching was hard, with
Pavlik frequenting the body and actually inflicting some damage on
Taylor in the eleventh round. Gone were the big punches, scarring jabs
and moments of wondering if a knockdown was about to happen that marked
the first fight.
QUINTANA PUNISHES WILLIAMS... by Armando Cabrera
Williams [33-1, 24 KO’s] making his first title defends against Quintana [25-1,
19 KO’s] was in shape for the fight, but Quintana had his own fight plan. He
quickly landed a few good solid shots to put Williams, the champion on alert that
he is hungry for the title.
Williams, with his height and reach advantage, kept on walking into
Quintana’s left hand punches. In the third round Quintana was working the body
more, occasionally going upstairs to the head of Williams, who by this time
was fighting from the outside trying to land his long range punches.
PAVLIK TAYLOR II AT 166... by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
Five months after Kelly Pavlik (33-0, 29 KO’s) knocked out Jermain Taylor (27-2- 1 Draw, 17
KO’s) and captured his WBC and WBO Middleweight Titles; they met again Saturday
night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where Taylor got a chance to redeem himself
and win back his pride if not his Titles, which were NOT on the menu for this
rematch. The contracted weight for the fight was 166-pounds, six pounds over the
Middleweight limit. It was Taylor’s request and Pavlik graciously accepted.
PAVLIK - TAYLOR 2: 'THE CROWN OF A GOOD
DISPOSITION IS HUMILITY" ...
by Xavier 'El Mago' Cepeda
It is not only the crown of good disposition, but also that of the
newly crowned Middleweight Champion Kelly Pavlik. Some of
us were surprised by the outcome of the Taylor vs. Pavlik fight, and
some of us were not. Taylor has everything to prove and
everything to gain in this anticipated rematch.
PAVLIK - TAYLOR 2: HAS TAYLOR RECOVERED
MENTALLY FROM THE KNOCKOUT LOSS? ... by Oleg Bershadsky
The truth is that we won’t know the
validity of Taylor’s decision until the fight and until then all the
speculation is just idle chatter. Each boxer faces defeat differently.
Lenox Lewis was the type of fighter that would use a loss
to motivate him in the rematch to redeem himself and leave no doubt as to who
the better boxer really was. So for now we will just have to wait and see how
Taylor will respond.
JERMAIN TAYLOR: "I TOOK KELLY FOR GRANTED..."
"I took Kelly Pavlik for granted, I underestimated him and I learned something from the
loss. I'm not taking anything away from him, but I'm coming to get back
everything he took from me. I'm very focused for this fight, everything is on the
line with me for this fight."
RIZWAAN ZAHID: IS A DECISION GOOD ENOUGH FOR JERMAIN TAYLOR?
“I can’t say anything bad about Manny Steward, just that
Ozell has been with me forever, you know. We know each other
very well. Now it's about hard work, I’m doing the road work
and waking up every morning and sparring 12 rounds...'
LOU DiBELLA: 'JERMAIN TAYLOR IS IN THE BEST SHAPE OF HIS CAREER...'
"There is no doubt on February 16th Jermain will be ready
for anything that Kelly brings to the ring. Taylor-Pavlik
I on September 29th was a historic battle that ended in Round 7. I, along with
boxing fans around the world, can't wait for Round 8 to start on February 16th."
LAS VEGAS IS NOT ATLANTIC
CITY: WHY PAVLIK MAY BE AT A DISADVANTAGE IN REMATCH
WITH TAYLOR... by Jocelyn Saurini
How can you not like a fighter who takes a rematch that can’t actually win him back
any championship belts even with a victory? After losing his
world Middleweight belt to Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik (32-0, 29
KOs) last September, the self-proclaimed Pride of Arkansas,
Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor (27-1-1, 17 KOs) exercised
his rematch option.

TAYLOR - PAVLIK: THE EPIC BATTLE CONTINUES FEBRUARY 16 LIVE ON PPV
During every New Years celebration, the
saying goes, “Out with the old, in with the new,” as well as
“The more things change, the more they stay the same.” Neither
could be more true concerning the mindset of
Jermain Taylor as he starts the New Year with training
camp in Las Vegas for his rematch with
Kelly Pavlik, billed
as "The Epic Battle Continues."
"Actually training camp started in December
in Little Rock, but officially it started with the New Year in
Las Vegas. Ozell Nelson put me through a
mini-training camp prior to coming to Las Vegas and we have gone
back to the basics working on better conditioning and
technique," said Taylor.
