'JUANMA' LOPEZ IS THE TRUTH IN THE SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT DIVISION... by Francisco Guzman

Juan Manuel is a southpaw with quick hands and punching power and in a division that doesn’t get much attention. It was a huge statement by Lopez, being that De Leon had never been knocked out.

Lopez was very emotional after the fight. “Im very excited about this win tonight. I know we are going to be celebrating tomorrow in Puerto Rico with all my fans,” said the youngster at the post-fight press conference. With this win Juanma  has probably opened the eyes of many ring observers, as he brings some excitement to the 122 lbs division.

HBO - SHOWTIME JUNE 7 DELIVERS - "OH WHAT A NIGHT!" ... by George Elsasser

Best description I have of last noche’s HBO-Showtime action is, “Oh what a nite”  - Showtime out of the gate the quicker with Paul “The Punisher” Williams regaining lost luster in first meeting with tough and courageous Carlos Quintana, who had snatched the welter strap by decision in first meeting.
The return quickly saw a reborn Williams at work. Each fighter began with look of confidence from the opening bell - and the early action had Williams and Quintana countering effectively in sniper fashion - then a Williams right hand set up a monster portside bomb for knockdown numero uno.

A SHORT AND SWEET NIGHT OF BOXING: PAVLIK AND LOPEZ WIN BY EARLY KNOCKOUTS... by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
Saturday night in Atlantic City, Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik improved his record to 34-0, with 30 KO’s after making easy work of Gary Lockett (30-2, 21 KO’s). Lockett landed a few good shots and put on his best menacing face but he took a knee twice in the second round after being tagged a few good times by Pavlik, then again in the third.

QUICKNESS DEFIES INTENSITY... by Bill Stephens
Challenger Juan Manuel Lopez becomes the new WBO super bantamweight champion 2.25 into the first round of his match against highly rated Daniel Ponce de León.
Lopez knocked the former champion down twice in first round, and went on to score a TKO win in the opener, with referee Michael Ortega stopping the onslaught.

AND STILL UNDEFEATED MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD... by Bill Stephens
Kelly Pavlik has TKO'd Gary 'The Rocket' Lockett in the third round of their championship bout. By the second round it was just a matter of when, with Lockett taking a knee twice in that round.
Like a skilled tactician, Pavlik landed each strategic punch with authority, and 'The Rocket' was no match for 'The Ghost." The towel was thrown in by trainer Enzo Calzaghe 1:40 into the third round.

IS JUAN MANUEL 'JUANMA' LOPEZ THE NEXT PUERTO RICAN SUPERSTAR?... by Francisco Guzman
Rising superstar Juan Manuel Lopez (21-0-19 KO’s) is going to be facing hard punching Mexican Daniel Ponce De Leon (34-1-30 KO’s) on the under card of Kelly Pavlik and Gary Lockett this Saturday the 7th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Adding to the list of Mexican and Puerto Rican rivalry this is a very intriguing fight. Juan Manuel hails from Caguas, Puerto Rico, the hometown of another Puerto Rican champion Miguel Cotto.

WBO WORLD JUNIOR FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION DANIEL PONCE DE LEON IS READY FOR BATTLE ON JUNE 7
“I’ve trained really hard for this fight and I’m positive that all of my hard work in the gym will show during the fight,” said De Leon yesterday during a media workout at “El Cache” Gym in Vernon, a Los Angeles suburb.  “I’ve had great sparring partners and a great camp and I know Lopez has done the same, but my experience, my power and my strength will be the key to me leaving the ring with my belt around my waist next Saturday night.”

PAVLIK - LOWE INTERVIEW AND SPARRING VIDEO...
KELLY PAVLIK: "...Now it is not only me versus another American fighter.  It is versus another country.  They are saying how they beat the fighters from the US.  That is one thing that we have to put a stand against.  Everything in this fight is different than the Taylor fights.  This is a critical fight and we have worked too hard to get this far and this is my first title defense.  The word is that this kid is underrated and this isn’t going to be a good fight and I will go in there and blast him out.  Well, now we have to go in there with a strong performance.  Not just beat the kid, but dominate him from the opening bell.  If I don’t do that then everyone will say, ‘Well, maybe Pavlik isn’t the fighter that everyone says he is.’  I have a lot to prove in this fight.  Not just winning, but winning convincingly and putting on a great show."

ENZO CALZAGHE LANDS LOEW BLOW!
Furious Enzo Calzaghe, the reigning "Trainer of the Year," has launched a stinging attack on world middleweight champion  Kelly Pavlik's trainer Jack Loew after Loew bad mouthed his son Joe - and top-rated middleweight title contender Gary Lockett.
Loew has been quoted in the press as saying: "Maybe Enzo can teach Lockett to slap like a girl - just like Joe."

CHAMPIONSHIP ACTION ON THE BOARDWALK: PAVLIK-LOCKETT, PONCE DE LEON-JUAN MANUEL LOPEZ JUNE 7TH
Summer heat arrives early when undefeated rising star Kelly Pavlik (33-0, 29 KOs), from Youngstown, Ohio, returns to Atlantic City - where he captured his middleweight crown - for his first title defense against Gary Lockett (30-1, 21 KOs),  in a scheduled 12-round contest.
In the opening bout, junior featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon (34-1, 30 KOs) battles undefeated top-ranked contender Juan Manuel Lopez (21-0, 19 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round bout. Originally from Cuauhtémoc, Mexico, and now residing in Huntington Park, Cal., De Leon will be making his sixth title defense since winning the belt in 2005.

GHOST IN TRAINING... by Bill Stephens
Pavlik, a native of Youngstown and a local hero in the Cleveland and Ohio areas, carries the WBC and WBO World Middleweight Championship belts with pride and honor. The undisputed and undefeated champ maintains a rigorous training schedule, but still makes time for charity and youth events.
Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik will face Gary “The Rocket Locket” with a record of (30-1 21 KO’s) on June 7th at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. Pavlik vs. Locket will headline HBO’s Championship Broadcast at 9:35 pm EST.

KELLY PAVLIK PRESS CONFERENCE IN NEW YORK CITY: GARY WHO?... by Ricky Ray Taylor

"Gary who?"  That's what most of us in the room were asking ourselves at today's pre-fight presser.  After all, Kelly Pavlik has soundly solidified his name into the upper crust of this sport in the last six months.  His two victories over long time rival Jermain Taylor were each highlighted on HBO's BAD series thrusting him as the man to beat in the always tough Middleweight division.
