He says he
wants Floyd for his last fight… Whitaker beat him and Oscar got the nod. That
was balanced out by Oscar getting jobbed in the Tito fight. Quartey was
another one DLH might have lost to. That was balanced by losing to Shane in
the second fight when he won (clearly in my eyes). Felix Sturm might have done
enough to earn the nod, but I don't think it was so inconceivable that Oscar
won, but say it is, and Oscar was gifted...that means after he dispatches with
El Matadoormat he is due to get robbed in his next decision. Enter Floyd
Mayweather Jr.?
OSCAR DE LA HOYA: "HOLLYWOOD SWINGING"...
by Aladdin Freeman
Ricardo Mayorga isn’t the same guy who beat
Vernon Forrest twice a few years back. It could be the fact that he took a
horrific beating at the hands of Felix Trinidad; it could be his lifestyle
outside of boxing. It could be just the fact that he motivates his opponents so
much that they bring it up a level in camp so they can beat the hell out of him.
Whatever it is, he’s not the same fighter. However, against a sharp boxer like
De La Hoya rushing in and leaving your defense in the wind will get your butt
thoroughly whipped.
A POSSESSED-LOOKING OSCAR DE LA HOYA DESTROYS RICARDO MAYORGA
IN SIX; MAYWEATHER JR. MAY BE NEXT... by Tom Dickey @ ringside If there were any concerns about ring rust
with Oscar de la Hoya, they were erased very quickly on Saturday night as
Oscar dropped Ricardo Mayorga twice en route to a sixth round TKO. In the
exciting bout that played out in front of a sell out crowd at the MGM
Grand in Las Vegas, Oscar looked like a man possessed, and he took out his
pent up frustrations on Ricardo Mayorga.
Ring rust? What ring rust? In his first fight in 20
months, ‘The Golden Boy,’ Oscar De La Hoya showed that
he was better than ever, impressively stopping Ricardo
Mayorga in six dominating rounds to win the WBC junior
middleweight championship at the MGM Grand Garden
Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
DE LA HOYA TAKES OUT THE TRASH-TALKING MAYORGA...Sharkie's Machine by Frank
Gonzalez Jr.
After a fairly long layoff, Oscar De
La Hoya returned to the ring in top form, made a ton
of Pay-Per-View money and proved that being a
gentleman should never be confused with being weak.
These days, just about every high profile fight is
hyped as, “sworn enemies” and other over-exaggerated
labels that fade as soon as the fight is over.
“Mayorga made the biggest mistake of his life by talking the
way he has from the beginning of this promotion. He definitely got under my
skin but he certainly did not get in my head. He doesn’t realize that he’s
made it worse for himself and on Saturday night he going to know what I am
talking about.”
6 SIX DAYS UNTIL DANGER ZONE... DE LA HOYA ARRIVES STATESIDE
De la Hoya, flown stateside by private jet, was
accompanied by Team De La Hoya—including trainer,
Floyd Mayweather Sr. and his brother Joel De La Hoya
Jr. —as well as his wife Millie and new son Oscar
Gabriel. “I can’t wait to fight,” said a fresh and
ready-looking De La Hoya. “With my family and team
surrounding me, I feel excited and extremely
confident that I will capture another world title
Saturday night.”
GOLDEN BOY
PROMOTIONS' DANGER ZONE EXTRAVAGANZA SHOULD BE GOLDEN...
by Tom Dickey
In its young existence Golden Boy Promotions has
already managed a couple of pay per view telecasts
along with other cards of note. In the month of May,
GBP will hold their two biggest cards of the year. Of
course the first is May 6th, featuring the Golden Boy
himself, Oscar de la Hoya against the always-exciting
Ricardo Mayorga.
CAMP
NOTES FROM 'THE GOLDEN BOY' OSCAR DE LA HOYA'S TRAINING...
De la Hoya is using an extreme and
“back to the basics” training regime to prepare for
the unpredictable Mayorga. The extreme training
drills include intense speed mitt drills, exhausting
speed bag interval training, inverted gravity boot sit
ups and abdominal strengthening exercises.

I'm not a Mayorga fan. He's loud,
abrasive and somewhat limited in his ability. He
is not nearly as polished as Oscar. Part of me wants
to see De La Hoya give Mayorga a beating worse
than Tito did.
DE LA HOYA TO APPEAR ON 'THE TONIGHT SHOW' MONDAY
MAY 1
Boxing superstar Oscar de la Hoya will be a guest on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay
Leno’ Monday (May 1) before heading to Las Vegas for his May 6 showdown with WBC

Ferdinand.
OSCAR DE LA HOYA: 'I AM GOING
TO TEACH MAYORGA A LESSON'...by Tom Dickey
On Mayorga's verbal attacks- "He's been attacking everything about
me from my
family, heritage and even my wife. He's done his job
to get me motivated and be the best I can be. Whatever
little games he tries to play he can't play them with
me.
-On possibly fighting Mayweather
now that he's free from Top Rank- "I used to always say
that I would never fight Floyd Jr. out of respect for
Floyd Sr. So, I would have to sit down with Floyd Sr.
and talk to him about it. But, yes I'm putting his
name out there.
OSCAR DE LA HOYA REMAINS BOXING'S GOLDEN ONE...
The “Golden Boy” Oscar de la Hoya is still boxing’s golden one as
witnessed by the extremely large turnout for his international
conference call yesterday. More than 65 reporters—both English
and Spanish media outlets—dialed in to hear Oscar’s thoughts on
his upcoming world super welterweight championship against Ricardo
“El Matador” Mayorga at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on
Saturday, May 6. This world championship match is
being promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Don
King Productions and will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View at
9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

I look for an exciting fight while it lasts. Part of me wants to see Oscar
get kayoed so I don't have to see that phony smile anymore. The other half
of me wants Oscar to take the arrogant, loud mouth Mayorga to school. I still
see Oscar winning this fight.
INSIDE THE GAME: SIZING UP THE LACY SITUATION AND GOING ON TOUR
WITH BROTHER FLOYD...
by Jeff Mayweather My brother Floyd
has been keeping me up to date on everything involving the
much-hyped May 6th fight between Oscar de la Hoya and
Ricardo Mayorga. Floyd was with Oscar and team Golden Boy during
the press conferences in Los Angeles and New York and things did
get very heated indeed.
Some say Mayorga is
simply trying to hype the fight but Floyd tells me that Oscar has
some genuine hatred for ‘El Matador’ and expects Oscar to lay a
beating on him come fight time.
Oscar de la Hoya and
Ricardo Mayorga can't seem to play nice at their press conferences.
While it is true that Oscar has never really shown disrespect towards
any opponent, with the exception of Fernando Vargas, it is also true
that it is very, very difficult to show restraint with Ricardo Mayorga,
and Oscar's patience and respectful manner are being tested by the
antics of the Nicaraguan matador.
THE MAYORGA CIRCUS MOVES ON TO THE BIG APPLE...
WBC Super welterweight champion, Ricardo Mayorga, wore his Sunday best to
Thursday's press conference in New York. Mayweather Sr. (R) wore red while
Oscar is seeing red. Hopkins, who has staged a few shows of his own, seems
amused at Mayorga's ridiculous antics. Don King seems bewildered and this
fight needs no more hype. Word has it that Mayorga must have a death wish...
