AGNALDO NUNES vs CARLOS NAVARRO IN CO-FEATURED NABF-NABA CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT ON APRIL 28

In the co-featured 12-round bout at Foxwoods Resort Casino on April 28, Agnaldo Nunes, 16-1-1 with 7 knockouts, of Piricicaba, Brazil, will defend the NABF and NABA super featherweight titles against Carlos Navarro, 27-4-1 with 22 knockouts, of Los Angeles, California.

Now 31 years old, Nunes was an amateur star in his home country - a four-time Brazilian national amateur champion and an Olympic representative in 1996 and 2000. He is managed and trained by Oscar Suarez, who also manages and trains Acelino Freitas, and is currently training for this fight with Freitas in Puerto Rico. Agnaldo said, “We’re good friends. We were on the Brazilian national amateur team together for about two years. Popo’s last year was ’95. I stayed with the team until 2000. We traveled all over together.”

Oscar Suarez said, “Agnaldo has strong ties to New England and is very excited about fighting at Foxwoods for the first time. We started together in Revere, Massachusetts. Agnaldo lived there for about a year and still spends a lot of time there. This is an important fight for him. A win will put him one step closer to an opportunity for a world title.”

Navarro, a talented 31 year-old lefthander, has very strong amateur credentials and a family boxing background, as well. He was a four-time U.S. national amateur champion and is the older brother of super flyweight contender Jose Navarro.
