"For me to become unified champion would be a very big accomplishment. This kind of opportunity would never happen if this fight was in France. That is one reason why I chose to come to the United States. This is where the challenges are and I am always ready to take on new challenges. This is my dream." Jean-Marc Mormeck

The Cruiserweight division got interesting Saturday night in Wooster Mass., where WBA Cruiserweight Champion Wayne Braithwaite (21-1-0-17 KO’s) lost his title to Frenchman, Jean Marc Mormeck (31-2-0-21 KO’s). It was a battle that saw Braithwaite go down for the first time in his career and lose his first professional fight.

With a lot of fans focusing solely on the big boys in the Heavyweight Division, one could easily get the sense that the Cruiserweight Division will be stuck playing second fiddle for as long as the fight game is around. That may certainly prove to be the case, but if tonight’s unification bout between Jean Marc Mormeck and Wayne Braithwaite is any indication, the boys at Cruiser are certainly out to make a name for themselves. Showtime's showdown between WBA champ Mormeck and WBC boss Braithwaite was one many had been eyeing for quite some time, and after twelve heated rounds of seesaw action, the wait turned out to be well worth it.
