Round 1:
Love the heavyweights of the 1990's? Always wanted to
see Evander Holyfield and Frans Botha get it on? Thanks
to the Nevada State Athletic Commission for granting the
"Real Deal" a license to fight you may just get your
wish. Holyfield is damn near 50 years old and Botha's
best was last seen over a decade ago. Perhaps the winner
should get in the ring with Tyson. I should be careful
what I wish for. What I'm trying to say is don't waste
your time and watch or support this "fight," and
don't spend a
dime on in it.
Round 2:
Love the middleweights of the 1990s?
Always wanted to see Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins get it
on a second time? See round 1...
Round 3:
Where is all the buzz for the upcoming Manny
Pacquiao - Joshua Clottey fight? Where is the HBO 24/7
series? The fight is less than two weeks away and It
doesn't have that big fight feel to it. After rolling
through De La Hoya, Hatton, and Cotto I get the feeling
the powers that be may be having a hard time selling
Clottey as a legitimate threat to the Pac Man.
Round 4:
I Found all the buzz that seems to be
missing from the Pacquiao - Clottey fight. It seems to be
following Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley. Now this is
a fight I can get behind. Two of the best fighters in the
world getting it on. Both fighters agreed to blood
testing that put an end to hopes of ever seeing Pacquiao
and Mayweather in the ring. This is a fight that holds
significance, something that is lacking in the Pacquiao -
Clottey fight. The only way that fight would hold significance
is if Clottey scores a massive upset.
Round 5:
Eddie Chambers is the next American hope
in line to fight a Klitschko. Chambers will meet younger brother
Wladimir on March 20th. "Fast" Eddie needs to
pull the upset for all that is right about boxing. The Klitschkos
have held the heavyweight division hostage far too long.
No worries, if Chambers falls we have a licensed Holyfield
ready to go.
Round 6:
The new and improved John Ruiz meets WBA
heavyweight champion David Haye in early April. If Ruiz
wins he'll join the likes of Muhammad Ali and Evander
Holyfield as the only heavyweights to win the title three
times. Never thought you would find yourself imagining that,
now did you?
Round 7:
James Toney jumped ship and joined the
UFC. Now we'll finally see how a boxing great does in
MMA. Oh, that's right, Toney hasn't been a factor in boxing
for years. Want to know how I feel about this? Read
rounds one and two.
Round 8:
Is Kelly Pavlik biting off more than he
can chew when he steps into the ring against Sergio
"Maravilla"
Martinez? The southpaw from Argentina proved his worth in
December of '09 by giving Paul Williams all he could
handle and more. Since his loss to Hopkins, Pavlik hasn't
seemed to be the same fighter. A defining win over
Martinez should put his name back in the mix of today's
best.
Round 9:
With Pavlik and Martinez squaring off
where does this leave Paul Williams? He was scheduled to
fight Kelly late last year but with the fight falling
through twice, he moved on and had his hands full with
Martinez. If I were Paul I would start making as much
noise as possible right now demanding the winner
of the Pavlik-Martinez.
Round 10:
I love the Super Six tournament. However,
I lack the patience to stay enthused about it between
fights. I know the fighters need time to heal and prepare
for the next round of the tournament which is right
around the corner. With the fights getting closer I once
again find myself getting excited about the tournament
and would like to welcome Allen Green to the mix.
