MAYWEATHER-HATTON
- WEEK AFTER... by George Elsasser
Mayweather Jr. - has the mechanics and tools
to reign supreme with still young body of age 30 - complete
package. Remained calm and collected over opening three stanzas
with the awkward, energizer bunny Hatton on the attack with
assorted small arms fire - come the later stanzas “Pretty Boy”
was far the fresher, and it showed nearing the big finale.
Polished and proven, with only a budding future in Miguel Cotto
waiting in the wings down the proverbial pike.
MAYWEATHER PUTS 'THE HITMAN' ON ICE...
by
Mike Cassel
Someone decided to use Joe Cortez to referee the bout. Cortez did a
pathetic job, taking Hatton out of his game early on, even deducting a point
from Hatton for hitting behind the head. Cortez starts every fight by saying
he is firm, but he is fair. I think it would be more accurate to say he was
annoying and far too involved. Ricky Hatton has made a career of fighting a
certain kind of fight. It seemed almost unfair to not allow him to be who he
was, just because of the referee
HATTON vs MAYWEATHER: 'HEART TO TELL' ...
by Xavier
Cepeda
The intriguing
aspect about this bout is the fighters' styles. Keeping true to the moniker
that “styles make fights,” this one is sure to be interesting as Mayweather
will once again pit his speed and ring savvy against an aggressive, never
take a step back style that is Hatton’s. There are similarities between both
fighters that in part, have brought them together for this bout. Both are
relatively young champions, Hatton 29, and Mayweather 30. Both are
undefeated, Hatton is 43-0 with 31 KOs, and Mayweather is 38-0 with 24 KOs.
Both boxers keep a very close knit camp and are in tight with their
trainers. When looking at the each pugilist’s past performances it is
apparent that each has had the poorest performance with fighters whose style
closely match what they will face on Saturday night.
'UNDEFEATED' - OFFICIAL WEIGHTS, AND OFFICIALS' ASSIGNMENTS
HATTON FIRED UP AT VEGAS WEIGH IN...
by Ben Dirs
"You can't argue with his record or what he's done but all good things come
to an end," Hatton told the BBC earlier.
"On Saturday night it comes to an end. It will be an eight or nine round
stoppage for Ricky Hatton." Mayweather's trainer and uncle Roger said:
"We've had Rocky 1 to 6 - we ain't gonna have a Rocky 7." The 30-year-old
Mayweather is a special fighter. In another time, when boxing ruled the
world, he might have been a household name to rank alongside the Sugar Rays
- Robinson and Leonard - and Muhammad Ali. But the fact that he isn't
doesn't make him any less of a talent.
Yes, he is arrogant. Yes, he is brash. But popularity is not going to be a
factor once the bell sounds for the first round at the MGM Grand.
“DANCING WITH THE STARS” CASTRONEVES, CUBAN AND NEWTON TO RING SATURDAY FOR MAYWEATHER
FIGHT AGAINST HATTON AT MGM GRAND
Dancing With the Stars winner and two-time Indianapolis 500
Champion Helio Castroneves,
along with fellow competitors Texas billionaire and Dallas
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban
and renowned entertainer and “Mr. Las Vegas” himself Wayne Newton, will
accompany six-time world champion “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather, also a participant on this year’s show—into
the ring Saturday night when he fights undefeated British icon Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton
for the WBC and Ring Magazine welterweight championship at the
MGM Grand in Las Vegas and live on HBO Pay-Per-view.
STORMY WEATHER ON THE MENU FOR MAYWEATHER...
by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
Hatton translates Floyd’s trash talking to indicate a lack
of confidence. Maybe Floyd is nervous. This will be the
first time he fights anyone like Ricky Hatton, who comes
right at you, full steam ahead for all of twelve rounds.
Will Floyd’s hands get injured? Will he lack the power to
hurt Hatton? Will he be able to keep Ricky off of him?
Surely he saw the Tszyu fight. How humiliating will it be
for a man with no humility to be humiliated? Those
thoughts definitely exist in Floyd’s head.
MAYWEATHER AND HATTON MAKE MGM GRAND ARRIVALS...
"Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather, and Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton both
arrived at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for "UNDEFEATED!" for the WBC and Ring
Magazine welterweight championship at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and live on HBO
Pay-Per-view. Here is what the fighters had to say as they met with media
members in town early to cover this mega-bout.
BLAST FROM THE PAST: CHRIS ACKERMAN ON MAYWEATHER - HATTON (As written
two years ago)
When a true superstar with elite skills, incredible gifts and absolute
dedication emerges and cements himself on the scene, the question for
promoters, odds-makers and fans is whether they can be beat, or at least which
opponent would put up the best fight. Floyd Mayweather Junior is such an
athlete who has elevated himself far above any of his contemporaries in the
ring. Ranked number one pound for pound on any credible list, he is so
superior to every other currently active fighter that slots two and three
ought to remain empty. The question then is, can anyone beat him?
DOES HATTON HAVE WHAT IT TAKES
TO BEAT MAYWEATHER?... by David Tyler
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has the hand and foot speed of a young
Ali. Mayweather has mastered the art of throwing punches and
using his foot speed to evade any returning punches from
opponents. Mayweather also uses his quick wit combined with
insults to entice his opponents into wasting energy by going for
the early knockout. He has called Ricky Hatton a coward,
cheater, Ricky Fatton (whatever that means), and a pussy (I know
what that means).
HATTON vs MAYWEATHER: LOSING THE MEDIA BATTLE BECAUSE OF BAD
COACHING...
by Jocelyn Saurini
Mayweather had an
opportunity to draw thousands of new fans into watching this fight, but
either he should fire his publicist or he just hasn’t done enough mainstream
media to know how to leverage his new fans.
MAYWEATHER - HATTON UNDERCARD ANNOUNCED
It's only fitting that the December 8
"UNDEFEATED" Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton featured
undercard fights bring the same high caliber competition
as the evening's main event super bout. Former super
middleweight world champion Jeff Lacy returns to the ring
against former 'Contender' star Peter Manfredo Jr., WBO
World Junior Featherweight Champion Daniel Ponce De Leon
defends his crown against Eduardo Escobedo and rising star
Wes Ferguson looks for payback in a rematch against Edner
Cherry to put a perfect ending on the sweet science.
HATTON: "IT WILL BE AN EXCEPTIONAL AND EXCITING FIGHT BECAUSE I'M IN IT. I MAKE THE
FIGHT..."
"I think for the last, I don't know, maybe for the last
eight, nine, probably about the last seven years of me
career, I don't think I've boxed under a crowd in 8,000,
and I mean, you know, there's was a massive crowd and a
massive turnout for Floyd and Oscar's fight, but, you
know, again, that was down to Oscar De La Hoya and not
Mayweather to be honest. You know, Mayweather
turns down and says that, you know, he takes less
punches and makes the most money, I mean well I feel
like saying, well that's why no one comes to watch
you..."

MAYWEATHER-HATTON NEW YORK CITY PRESS CONFERENCE
COVERAGE...
by Ricky Ray Taylor
Ricky Hatton: "Floyd has shown me plenty of disrespect leading up to this showdown. I only ask ONE thing of Floyd, please be as
aggressive in the ring as you are to me at these press conferences!"

HATTON, MAYWEATHER TRADE INSULTS AT LOS ANGELES PRESS
CONFERENCE...
Hatton stirred up the rivalry saying: "He is doing the show
'Dancing with the Stars' and that's how he's boxing."
Mayweather retorted by calling the Manchester boxer "Vicky
Fatten" and suggesting he should be a wrestler.
JIM AMATO PREDICTS ON UPCOMING FIGHTS. DO YOU AGREE OR
DISAGREE?
Jermain Taylor - Kelly Pavlik? This has
Fight of the Year written all over it. Who's going to win? I'm pulling for Kelly
but this is a very difficult fight for both men. I can't wait to see this one.
UNDEFEATED: RICKY HATTON vs FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. ...
by Gary Todd
With a combined professional record of 81 victories between
them, with 55 of their opponents not making it past the 10th round, is it any
wonder they called it 'Undefeated'? There are a few questions that will be
asked in the lead up to this fight, but for me the only relevant one is, why
did Mayweather come back to fight Hatton?
HATTON MOCKS 'DANCING MAYWEATHER'...
The decision by 'Pretty
Boy' Floyd Mayweather Jr. to appear in the U.S. version of Strictly Come
Dancing while training for his big fight against Ricky Hatton has been met
with derision by the Mancunian 'Hitman.'
FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. WILL
BE DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY...
Fans of the popular TV show
"Dancing with the Stars" will be in for a special treat
this upcoming season. Floyd Mayweather Jr., who is scheduled
to fight Ricky Hatton December 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada, will become a celebrity dancer for the show.
MAYWEATHER - HATTON: NOT ON THE SAME LEAGUE...
by Jeff
Mayweather
To be honest, this isn't even a good fight on paper. It's a
super-fight because both guys are undefeated but their skill levels
are as far apart as the distance that separates Manchester, England,
from the United States.

MAYWEATHER VS. HATTON LANDS AT THE MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA IN
LAS VEGAS
The records are pristine and spectacular – a combined
81-0 with 55 knockouts. However, the stage is now set for
"Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather or Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton
to face a blemish on their record Saturday, Dec. 8,
something both men are willing to go to war to prevent.
Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions are proud to
present "UNDEFEATED", a historic night of boxing
featuring two undefeated champions battling for Mayweather's
World Welterweight Championship at the MGM Grand Garden
Arena.
MAYWEATHER vs HATTON
"UNDEFEATED" SET FOR DECEMBER 8 LIVE ON PPV
They are two
of boxing’s best, two of the most exciting fighters in the sport
today, and both are undefeated. They stand atop their weight
divisions and fight fans are in for a thrill as pound-for-pound king
of the ring and welterweight champion “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather
will meet British icon and junior welterweight champion Ricky “The
Hitman” Hatton on Saturday, December 8 for the 147-pound championship.
HATTON FIRES BACK AT MAYWEATHER...
"It really doesn't bother me at all. When you beat
someone like that it makes it all the sweeter.
"The fact is, I don't think he liked me coming out to Las Vegas - his
home town - last time out with 10,000 of my own fans and putting on a
great show and earning a great win against Jose Luis Castillo. He
didn't like that and has come out of retirement."
