Hard hitting Carlos Maussa of Monteria, Colombia is looking for a big shot in one of the hottest division in boxing. Maussa ranked #7 by the WBA and #15 by the WBC is well known for big upsets in the Jr. Welterweight division. After coming to campaign in the United States in 2003 Maussa picked up 3 wins, grabbing the WBC Latin title on the way before the opportunity to face a top contender came along. That happened on September 26, 2003 when Maussa faced Jeffrey Resto of New York, who was ranked and considered one of the best prospects in the division. Maussa wasted no time and from round one he forced the fight to Resto and made him quit in round 6, surprising the boxing world in a bout televised by ESPN2. After the win another big opportunity came on December 6, 2003 when he faced top ranked contender Miguel Angel Cotto on PPV. Maussa had a bad night but he took the fight to Cotto since round one and in a brilliant effort he was stopped on cuts in round 8 when his corner stepped in and stopped the fight. It was time for another opportunity and Maussa's team flew to Tokyo, Japan to face OPBF Champion and world ranked contender Masakazu Satake on March 6, 2004. Maussa beat the prohibitive favorite by split decision in 10 rounds in his hometown, once again surprising the boxing world. Maussa's promoter Felix "Tuto" Zabala, Jr. of "All Star Boxing, Inc. 'The New Generation'" was quoted as saying... "Maussa is a very busy fighter who throws a lot of punches per round confusing his opponents. This makes him a good fighter for TV because he always comes to fight, giving all he's got. I hope another big opportunity comes along for him in the division, we are working hard in getting him another shot at a top ranked Jr. Welter and perhaps a World Title fight." Maussa is training hard in his native Colombia and will be coming to the U.S. to finish his work with his trainer Professor Roberto Quesada of Cuba. Carlos Maussa is scheduled to fight October 22 in Boxeo Telemundo. 8-25-2004 Brought to you by Saratogamist copyright 2001-2004 |
