JOEL CASAMAYOR EDGES CORRALES TO BECOME THE NEW WBC LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION... by Tom Dickey @ ringside
The big question going into this bout was how Corrales would look physically after what he revealed he had gone through all week. Corrales said that he had gone three days without eating, and at times on Friday felt like he would pass out. Nevertheless, Chico went on with the fight, at times looking lethargic, but for the most part looking fairly normal.

QUICK HIT...
The Nevada State Athletic Commission fined Corrales $240,000, $120,000 of which goes to Casamayor. The Corrales and Casamayor camps also agreed on a settlement that included an undisclosed monetary payment from Corrales to Casamayor.

QUOTES...

JOEL CASAMAYOR: “I was concerned when it went to a decision. The judges didn’t see it my way against Freitas, Castillo and then the last fight with Corrales. I won those, but I won this one clearly.”

DIEGO CORRALES: “I thought I won it. I will go back and watch the tapes. If I lost it, I’ll say I lost it.  You have seen the end of me at 135. I am going to go home and think about what I am going to do, if you’ve seen the end of me all together.”

ROBERTO DURAN: (talking to Casamayor as they waited for the official decision) "Don't worry, you won from here to China."

ALI BASHIR: (Monty Barrett's trainer) "I thought Monte was in the fight that is why I let it go as far as it could go," Bashir said afterwards. "I saw that he was tiring and he was hurt and there was no reason to go on. It was just a risky thing at that point, so I stopped the fight."

MANIFIST DESTINY HITS SHOWTIME THIS SATURDAY... by Tom Dickey
Diego now looks forward to fighting another man who he has fought twice. Corrales' first two fights with Joel Casamayor have been exciting affairs, especially the first one. In that fight, Corrales was down twice and Casamayor once. Unfortunately, the fight didn't last too long as Corrales suffered a nasty cut inside his mouth that would end the fight. In the rematch, Corrales was dropped again late in the fight, but ended up winning a tight,  split decision. He is ready and itching for fight number three, against a guy he doesn't really like, and the animosity has began to boil over in recent weeks.

CORRALES - CASAMAYOR III: REVISITING THE PAST AND LOOKING TOWARDS THE FUTURE... by Chris Robinson
Corrales and Casamayor are in similar situations as they prepare to do battle yet again in Las Vegas, again at the Mandalay Bay. Neither fighters has had a huge showdown like this for quite some time and while both have a lot to lose they also have plenty to gain. All the chips are on the table in this one.

MANIFIST DESTINY!: COCKY CASAMAYOR CONFIDENT HE WILL KO CORRALES...
“I beat Corrales the first time and got robbed in the second,” Casamayor said through an interpreter. “The decision was unjust. I knocked him down. I won the last six rounds and they said I lost. I had it eight rounds to four and I was pretty close to the action, so I should know. It was disappointing. I dictated the pace and landed the harder shots. Smart boxers do not get enough credit for ring generalship and defense.
