'NIGHT OF THE KNOCKOUT' A SUCCESS!

"Wednesday Night at the Fights" at the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame maybe should have been tagged, "Night of the Knockout" as all four bouts on the card came to an early stoppage.

In a dual Main Event format, the capacity crowd saw Italian Super Featherweight Champion Ivan "Matador" Fiorletta put on a display of boxing skills against a very game, late replacement, Miguel Alvarez of
Columbus, Ohio. In a real crowd pleaser Fiorletta boxed beautifully from both orthodox and southpaw stances throughout the fight. Alvarez was down late in Round 5 and the referee halted the bout in Round 6, when Fiorletta cornered Alvarez and unloaded a blistering flurry of punches to which Alvarez, still standing, could not respond. To illustrate the toughness of Alvarez, who was cut above the left eye in
the 3rd round from a straight right hand, he was cornered late in the 5th with Fiorletta landing punches in bunches for about fifteen seconds, with Alvarez taking every punch Fiorletta stepped back and shook his head in disbelief to which Alvarez responded with a simple shoulder shrug. Fiorellta improves his record to 15-2-2 and recorded his 7th Knockout, Alvarez falls to 4-6-1.

In the other featured bout of the evening found unbeaten, local Heavyweight prospect Mike Mollo against another late replacement in journeyman Shawn Robinson. Mollo dropped Robinson four times in the
1st Round before the referee stopped the bout at 2:51. Mollo improves his record to 13-0 with this his 7th Knockout, Robinson falls to 16-15.

In the first under card of the evening young Middleweight Eric Batista(2-0 2KO's) scored a TKO over David Love(1-3 1KO), when the referee stopped the bout after Love was down for the second time in the first round, official time was 2:26.

In the second under card Super middleweight Devin Lopez(2-1 2 KO's) scored a KO victory over Kelly Prater (0-2) when Prater dropped to one knee from a straight right hand and decided not to beat the count.
Official time of the bout was 1:44 of the 1st round.
