Former No. 1 heavyweight contender David Tua of Western Samoa, fresh off an impressive knockout in his first bout in more than two years, may fight again as soon as June in the United States, according to promoter Cedric Kushner. “David showed he’s back in full force both physically and mentally with his knockout of Griffis,” said Kushner, Tua’s promoter..

“He passed the test and is back on track. He’s ready to fight no later than the end of June,” said Kushner. “And this time the fight definitely will take place in the United States.

“So, now, we’re looking at suitable opponents,” said Kushner, “ones who will test David and get him prepared for his assault on a world championship.”

The 32-year-old Tua stopped Griffis in the 10th round March 31 in Auckland, N.Z.

That fight, along with two supporting heavyweight title bouts scheduled for 12 rounds--World Boxing Association Intercontinental heavyweight champion, 7-foot, 325-pound Nicolay Valuev against Attila Levin and World Boxing Council International champ Sinan Samil Sam against Lawrence Clay Bey–still can be seen on an on-demand basis through the iNDEMAND and TVN television platforms.

“I know I’ll be sharper next time,” said Tua. “Overall, I was satisfied with my performance considering I’d been off two years.

“I’m happy I went the rounds,” said Tua. “I needed them after the layoff. It was a big boost for my confidence knowing I had the stamina to go10 rounds.

“That fight was the best of both worlds; I got rounds and in the end I got a KO.”

Tua, who has wins over current WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz and former WBC and International Boxing Federation heavyweight champ Hasim Rahman, now has a record of 43-3-1 with 38 knockouts.
