‘I
wasn’t really surprised because Roger is family and he does have a genuine
concern for Floyd,’ Floyd Sr. told us. ‘I wasn’t in his position so I really
can’t speak on that. I heard that him and Zab had gotten into it at the weigh
in, so there did seem to be some genuine bad blood between them already.’
JUDAH vs MAYWEATHER: CHANCES ARE I WOULD HAVE
DONE THE SAME THING...
by Jeff Mayweather Zab Judah, who
claims he isn't a dirty fighter, did the same exact
thing against his last opponent when he found
himself hurt and about to lose his belt. This has
become Judah's way of dealing with defeat. Judah
deliberately threw a low blow to Mayweather's groin,
crippling him in devastating pain; Judah even took
it a step further as he intentionally hit Mayweather
again, this time
in the back of
the head with his best punch of the night and
followed that one by a hook that just missed.
FAMILY TIES: MORE THAN SWORN ENEMIES...
by D J Carter Emotions were
very high from both corners. I hope that when the
Nevada State Athletic Commission reviews those tapes
they will see this picture. Roger may have sparked an
incident, but who ignited it? It all started with
Judah, who in desperation, clearly aimed for
Mayweather's groin area. He then followed up with a
wild punch to the back of his head. Even as referee
Richard Steele backed Judah away, he continued to
swing. Intentional or misjudgment? There is no way you
can convince me that those blows were mistakes.
There's no way Judah can truthfully say he was going
for the body blow and miscalculated.
MAYWEATHER vs JUDAH: CALLING IT AS I SEE IT... by Aladdin
Freeman
Floyd Mayweather is no joke at boxing, that is nothing
new, most people that follow the sport understand his all around skills and
have him at the top of the pound for pound list. However, regardless of his
recent win and now being a “champion” at Welterweight, he hasn’t done ANYTHING
since he left the 135 pound division when he beat Jose Luis Castillo, at least
one time.
SORTIN' IT OUT 147... by Chris
Ackerman
Boxing is a strange game made stranger by the
involvement of sinister forces running sinister sanctioning bodies with sinister
motives and it takes a lot of effort to make sense of it all. Try
explaining to someone why this was a title fight in the first place.
Carlos Baldomir didn’t pay the sanctioning fees to the IBF or WBA prior to his
fight with then champion Zab Judah. Therefore it was only a partial
championship bout and Zab kept a trinket he could dangle in front of the Pretty
Boy to bait him into a fight that should never have happened.
SWORN ENEMIES: A LOOK BACK... by Kenny Perrault, ringside
Fast forward to Saturday night's main event; both fighters have
made their ring entrance and the bell has rung to
start the fight billed as "Sworn Enemies." To the
surprise of many, Zab Judah not only makes a fight out
of it, he looks good doing it, seemingly confusing
Floyd early with his southpaw style. However, let’s
not forget Floyd is considered by most as the best
pound 4 pound fighter in the world; it was only a
matter of time until Floyd figured out Zab and took
control of the fight. And that's exactly what
Floyd did in the middle rounds. It stopped being, wow
look at Zab! and quickly became it's about time
Floyd
started doing what we all knew he could do. Things were
going smoothly for Floyd Mayweather, until the closing
seconds of round number ten that is.
MAYWEATHER WINS...
by Kenny Perrault, ringside
Zab Judah and Floyd Mayweather Jr. met in the ring
tonight at the Thomas and Mack Center in a bout dubbed
“Sworn Enemies.” To the surprise of many, Zab Judah
got off to a great start in the early rounds landing
his straight left to Floyd's body and head. It
appeared that Zab Judah scored a knockdown in the
second round when Floyd's glove touched the canvas;
however, referee Richard Steele failed to call it.
MAYWEATHER PASSES THE BIGGEST TEST OF HIS
CAREER...
by Mike Leanardi, ringside
It looked as
though an upset may be in store when Judah started off
very effectively, winning the first two rounds in the
eyes of most at ringside. It appeared as though Judah
knocked Mayweather down in the 2nd round
when Floyd’s glove touched the canvas; however,
referee Richard Steele ruled it a slip.
SWORN ENEMIES... WHEN TRASH TALKING GOES TOO
FAR...
by Desiree Carter
It goes too
far when the infamous Mike Tyson says “I’ll eat your
kids…” Although, Zab hasn’t said anything that can
touch that statement, he’s heading down that path.
Did you really need to take it to the streets Zab? He
says, “Floyd don’t want to see me on the streets, he
know what I’ll do.” Yoel says, “When you push our
buttons, you got problems…” and “We from Brooklyn, we
take, that’s what we’re here to do...”
JUAN
DIAZ: ITCHING TO JUST FIGHT AGAIN...by Tom Dickey
WBA lightweight champion Juan "The Baby Bull" Diaz will make
his long awaited return to the ring on April 8th. Diaz will be fighting on the
Floyd Mayweather-Zab Judah undercard against Jose Miguel Cotto. For Diaz it has
been a frustrating year with fights falling through left and right. Diaz had his
fight with Ebo Elder cancelled due to a cut, and had his mandatory defense
against Lakva Sim postponed by Sim's camp on three different occasions.
Diaz will finally step back into the ring on the 8th,
and will be taking on a dangerous opponent in Cotto.
YOEL JUDAH: '"WE'RE GONNA SHUT FLOYD'S BIG
MOUTH!" ...
by Tom Dickey
If being absent again means that Zab Judah is very focused for his upcoming
fight with Floyd Mayweather, then Zab is as focused as ever. Once again, Zab
failed to show up for a promotional event for his upcoming April 8th fight, this
time a Top Rank conference call with the press...
Maybe one day Zab will realize that
in order to sell a pay per view, you have to show up to promote, after all
he is trying to sell his fight to people, and considering his performance in the
Baldomir fight he should actually be trying to sell the fight hard, very hard.
APRIL 8TH PPV HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY...
by Tom Dickey
Some criticism has been expressed regarding the April
8th Zab Judah-Floyd Mayweather
pay per view card; and most of
the criticism has been aimed at the main event. Some are saying,
and rightfully so, that this shouldn't be considered a title
fight, while others are saying that it has
lost its intrigue because
of Judah's recent upset loss at the hands of Carlos 'Tata'
Baldomir.
Though these points of contention are true to a point, one thing can't
be denied when
looking over the whole card, and that is the fact that this
card offers
everything boxing fans would like to see.
MAYWEATHER vs JUDAH: I'M WATCHING...
by Kenny Perrault
A popular axiom among boxing fans reflects that in the
world of boxing you are only as good as your last fight. The saying holds true
for the upcoming ‘Sworn Enemies’ match-up between Floyd Mayweather Jr.
and Zab Judah on April 8th. In late December and early January the buzz
surrounding the upcoming encounter between these two colorful fighters seemed
to grow with each passing day. There was only one thing that could possibly
derail this mega fight and that was Carlos Baldomir. Carlos Baldomir? I asked
myself.
APRIL 8 HBO PPV CARD MAY BE WORTH THE
BUCKS...
by Jim Amato
Zab Judah puts his IBF version of the welterweight
title on the line against undefeated superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. Despite the
fact that Judah lost a portion of the title in his last fight to Carlos
Baldomir, this bout will provide a stern test for Mayweather. In my opinion
Floyd is the best boxer pound for pound in the world today. I always felt Judah
was over rated but he is still a formidable fighter. He is probably the fastest boxer Floyd will have met
to this point in his career.
FLYWEIGHT SUPER FIGHT! ARCE TO DEFEND
AGAINST ROSENDO ALVAREZ ON APRIL 8TH
"We are not friendly rivals, we are just rivals, he thinks his going
to knock me out, but I doubt it very much, his time has come and gone, now is
my time," said Arce. “I don't dance, I come to fight when I'm inside
that ring. Mark my words, on April 8, “El Bufalo” will be an endangered
species!"
MAYWEATHER-JUDAH IS A ZOMBIE!...
by Chris Ackerman
Almost immediately after the
results from New York were posted, a death certificate was issued for the
Mayweather-Judah fight with the requisite autopsy that indicated cause of
demise was impending mismatch. The initial surprise at Judah’s loss, and
subsequent behavior, wore off quickly and speculation began as to Floyd’s
replacement dance partner. Well, it seems the coroner may have been a little
premature in publishing his findings....
JANUARY
7th: THE DAY THAT SHOOK THE WELTERWEIGHT DIVISION...
by Tom Dickey
On January 7th in New York City,
Carlos Baldomir shocked the boxing world by upsetting welterweight champion
Zab Judah. In turn, the welterweight division got shaken up like an
earthquake. Instead of Judah winning as expected, and a possible match with
Floyd Mayweather Jr. to determine who the 147 pound king would be, we got a
shake-up that opened the division wide open. Suddenly, Baldomir became a
wanted man, because most everyone sees Baldomir's new title as a very
attainable title.
