JUDAH - BALDOMIR, BELL - MORMECK: A BRC EXCLUSIVE
DIRECTORY
“Zab Judah is the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world no matter what
anyone else may want you to believe
and he will prove it to any non-believers
when he knocks out Carlos Baldomir and then Floyd Mayweather." - Don King
GOING DOWN IN HISTORY:
O'NEIL BELL SPEAKS ON BECOMING 'UNDISPUTED' ...
by Chris Robinson
Lost in the
madness of Zab Judah’s upset loss to Carlos Baldomir was the excellent brawl
put forth by O’Neil Bell and Jean-Marc Mormeck. Bell would go on to beat the
odds in
scoring a tenth round knockout over Mormeck and now takes possession
of the WBA
and WBC Cruiserweight belts along with his IBF strap.
BALDOMIR Y BELL GANARON
LAS PELEAS DE LA DOBLE CARTELERA DE SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING
Los
realmente subestimados boxeadores Carlos Baldomir y O’Neil Bell comenzaron
A hard working,
earnest and light punching fighter named Carlos
Baldomir exposed
Judah
and put to rest his vision or anyone's vision of grandeur for
Zab. The light punching
Baldomir rocked and wobbled
Judah
several times and out hustled him on his way to the
welterweight championship, proving
Zab is a much better trash talker
than he is a fighter.
Up
in smoke went his big pay days with
Floyd Mayweather and
Ricky
Hatton. His best bet to resurrect what's left of his career is to
fight the faded KostyaTszyu. With the chin he showed
Saturday night that will prove to be no easy task. The last thing a
fighter loses is his punch and Zab
can expect the faded Tszyu to bring
his punch to the dance. Forget Mayweather
or Hatton,
Judah will be cannon fodder...
BELL FOLLOWS THE SCRIPT IN UPSETTING MORMECK VIA KNOCKOUT...
by Chris Robinson
When looking at the career
of O’Neil Bell, one might see a champion who is flawed but resolved.
Throughout his share of fights Bell has been tagged often, dropped to the
canvas, and found himself in trouble but he has never given up and his heart
and perseverance have carried the day for him. Tonight that same formula
would lead Bell to the undisputed Cruiserweight Championship as he upset
heavy-handed Frenchman Jean-Marc Mormeck by way of 10th round TKO
in a memorable fight.
INSIDE THE GAME: CLOSING
OUT 2005... by Jeff Mayweather
The holiday season is upon us and things in the boxing world have slowed
down both in and out of the ropes. The next solid card takes place January 7th
when Zab Judah defends his belts against Carlos Baldomir with O’Neil Bell
and Jean-Marc Mormeck going at it for Cruiserweight honors in the
co-feature.
In this
edition of Inside the Game I offer up my two cents on
Judah-Mayweather, Jermain Taylor’s next fight, Ike Quartey’s chances of
again becoming a champion, and more.
BELL COPS IBF STRAP WITH
MORMECK KO... by George Elsasser
The Showtime Championship Boxing offering from MSG last noche caught
itself a break with an old time down and dirty shootout, when respective
cruiserweight champions Jean Marc Mormeck (WBC-WBA) and O’Neil Bell (IBF)
put their belts where the mouths were... From the get go this one was
nasty...
BALDOMIR SHOCKS JUDAH
WITH UNANIMOUS DECISION! ...
Newsflash/Chris Robinson
Moments ago at the Theatre in Madison Square Garden we were witness to a
huge upset as Carlos Baldomir upset Welterweight champion Zab Judah by
unanimous decision over twelve rounds.
Scorecards read 115-113, 114-113, and
115-112 for the rugged Argentinean in what could
easily hold up to be the
upset of the year.
CARLOS BALDOMIR SHAKES
UP 147-POUND DIVISION...
Sharkie's Machine by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
Congratulations to Argentina’s new WBC Welterweight Champion, Carlos
Baldomir (41-9-6-12 KO’s), who outworked and outscored the inconsistent
and foul former Champion, Zab Judah (34-3-25 KO’s) of Brooklyn New York.
This victory for Baldomir shakes things up in a division Judah was
perceived to
have locked up—so long as he could successfully avoid fighting WBO Champ,
Antonio Margarito.
I HAD A FEELING...
by Chris Ackerman
You know how sometimes you are too lazy to do something and then later wish
you had? Well after tonight’s upset victory by Carlos “Tata” Baldomir, I
wished I had written the article I was planning. It’s pretty easy to say
this now that it’s come to pass but I had a sneaking suspicion that Zab was
going to have his hands full, and guys like Zahir Raheem are the reason.
The cool part is that I was right, the huge downside is only a handful of
people heard me call it and more importantly, that the much anticipated clash
of the talkers evaporated the instant tonight’s scores were read.
BALDOMIR NIPS JUDAH AT
THE WIRE... by George Elsasser
Surprise, surprise … or was it? This unofficial had it an ugly Judah win to
the tune of 115-114 in points, and 6-5-1 under the yesterday trusted round by
round method - so much for my unofficial pencil pushing exercise, as the
numbers that count went unanimous for the Argentine gamer 115-113, 114-113,
115-112.
KARMA HITS ZAB JUDAH
HARD... by Tom Dickey
2006 may be only a week old, Zab Judah's upset loss on
Saturday night may hold up for the remainder of the year as the upset of the
year. Judah lost a unanimous decision to journeyman Carlos Baldomir, a fighter
with a record of 42-9-6, in front of his hometown crowd. For
those of you who watched the fight on Showtime on Saturday night and are
wondering how Zab could have lost to a fighter like this, the answer
might be that karma struck back at Zab. The other answer may be that Zab
hasn't changed, like many had been saying.
NOTHING IS FOR CERTAIN:
ROGER MAYWEATHER SPEAKS ON JUDAH'S LOSS...
by Chris Robinson It was a
competitive fight but Zab just didn’t seem to be fully focused. For some
reason he couldn’t seem to really get himself into the fight. I don’t know if
it was any distractions outside of the ring or whether or not he was getting
ahead of himself but he didn't seem into it. Baldomir looked like an average
fighter to me but nothing’s for certain in this game.
ZAB JUDAH: 'NO EXCUSES'...
by Jeff Mayweather
Saturday night in New York was supposed to be a homecoming for one of New
York's favorite sons, Zab 'Super' Judah. Boxing is the theater of the
unexpected and every once in a while it also has a bit of karma, which is
exactly what happened to Judah.
It was good to see poetic justice. Hitting Baldomir below the belt that way
wasn't called for and just as Judah went to Cory Spinks hometown and pulled
off the upset, karma came back to get him and leave him removed from his
title belts as well.
As good as a fight as this one could turn out to be the reality of it all is
that the fight is taking place in the Cruiserweight class, and simply put,
there isn’t a lot of money to be made at that weight. You don’t see any
breakout stars coming from that class and it doesn’t matter if one of the
champions fights ten times, they still might not make a million dollars. The
real money is in the Heavyweight division and that is honestly where I expect
the winner of this fight to go.
The new year is fast approaching and
with it comes the promise of some potentially great fights in 2006. So far
we are scheduled to see the rematch between Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao,
Shane Mosley and Fernando Vargas battling for bragging rights in
Southern California, Marco Antonio Barrera going up in weight to challenge
Jesus Chavez, and the always intriguing antics of Hasim Rahman and James
Toney. Add to it the possibility of Floyd Mayweather vs. Zab Judah in April
and things aren’t looking too shabby on the boxing landscape.

O'NEIL BELL: IN NEW YORK AND READY TO GO...
by Chris Robinson
In a fight that promises to get the New Year off to a
blistering start, IBF Cruiserweight champion O’Neil Bell will face off with
WBA and WBC counterpart Jean-Marc Mormeck this Saturday night at the Theatre
in Madison Square Garden. The fight will serve as the co-feature to Zab Judah
defending his welterweight crown against Carlos Baldomir and I have a feeling
that Bell and Mormeck will come away stealing the show.
MORMECK NICKNAME CONTEST ENDS SATURDAY,
VOTE NOW... The good-natured Frenchman responded to
such a question at a press conference prior to his SHOWTIME-televised
unification win on April 2 in Worcester, Mass., that he would take submissions
from Americans on his web site. Mormeck then decided to let fans make
the final decision on SHO.com

SHOWTIME JANUARY 7
MORMECK-BELL WORTH A PEEK... by George Elsasser
The January 7 Showtime Saturday nite special, with WBA-WBC strap
holder Jean Marc Mormeck facing IBF belt claimant O’Neil Bell in a
winner take all unifier, is about as good a pairing at cruiserweight
as it gets.
Mormeck the sniper, Bell the celebrated puncher - still, the resumé
matches nicely, with the Frenchman chalking 21 knockouts among the 31
wins, and Bell accruing 23 stoppages among the 25 credits.
ZAB JUDAH: 'FLOYD IS SCARED OF ME...'
by Elisa Harrison
Reliable sources have told us that the only thing holding up a serious date
between phenoms Zab 'Super' Judah and Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather Jr. is what
Team Judah refers to as 'Mayweather's fear' of the Brooklyn southpaw.
JUDAH - BALDOMIR, BELL - MORMECK MEET THE
PRESS IN NEW YORK CITY Showtime Championship Boxing begins its 20th year with a
world championship doubleheader Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006 (9 p.m. ET/PT, (delayed
on the west coast). Hometown favorite and one of the world’s best
pound-for-pound boxers, undisputed welterweight champion Zab “Super” Judah,
will defend against WBC No. 1 contender Carlos Baldomir in the main event. In
the SHOWTIME co-feature, two reigning cruiserweight champions collide when
World Boxing Council/World Boxing Association (WBC/WBA) champion Jean-Marc
Mormeck faces his International Boxing Federation (IBF) counterpart, O’Neil
“Supernova’’ Bell, in a world title unification bout.
THE WORLD ACCORDING TO
ZAB... by Frank Costarelli Jr. Zab once again has verbal
diarrhea. Zab evidently has never
gotten over his humiliating defeat at the hands of
Kostya
Tszyu. He's now calling out and disparaging the 36 year old
faded ex champion. Zab is looking
to prove to the world he's the best pound for pound fighter. Here we
go again, another best pound for pound fighter.
Zab figures the best way to do this
is to pick on a 36 year old Tszyu.
I guess he figures age and RickyHatton have taken enough out of
Tszyu, to rendered him harmless and
non-threatening.
MORMECK AND BELL SHOULD GIVE US SOMETHING SPECIAL THIS JANUARY... by Chris Robinson
...Add to it Klitschko’s recent retirement and things seemed to take
a turn for the worse, but my hopes were lifted when I read about another
championship clash being finalized: Jean-Marc Mormeck vs. O’Neil ‘SuperNova’
Bell. The Mormeck-Bell showdown is a quality pairing between perhaps the two
best champions in the Cruiserweight division and should be a great start to
2006 for us all...
WHAT'S WITH ZAB JUDAH?... by
Chris Ackerman
Zab needs to take care of some serious
business both in the gym and in his mind. Consider his comments
about Tszyu in the opening paragraph: “You see how Ricky Hatton beat the
life out of him. He's dead right now. Let me finish him off and show the
world that I am the best pound for pound fighter.”
I ask you this…if Kostya is dead right now, how does finishing him off show
Zab is the best pound for pound???

BOXING FANS CAN HELP PICK A RING NAME FOR
JEAN-MARC MORMECK Jean-Marc Mormeck has
often been asked when fighting in the United States, why he has
yet to adopt
an intimidating nickname like so many other boxers do. The good-natured
Frenchman responded to such a question at a press conference prior to his
SHOWTIME-televised unification win on April 2 in Worcester, Mass., that he
would take submissions from Americans on his web site. Mormeck then decided
to let fans make the final decision on SHO.com
