Water was poured on the fire in the fourth when Corrales after again being put on the canvas, returned the compliment with a left hook immediately forcing the Cuban to take a seat, a round that looked a judge's nightmare to score. Casamayor, happy to duke it out and display some Mucho macho to the las Vegas fighter so far, opted in round five to settle into a great display of boxing and took control, punishing Corrales as he stalked Joel determined to land his heavier artillery.
Round six looked to live up to the moniker of the evening's card and War on October 4 looked to be seriously on until at the end of another physical round the Corrales corner began to work furiously to stem blood flow from an injury around the mouth. After close examination the bout was stopped on advice from Dr. Margaret Goodman, who later revealed that the blood was coming from a shocking cut inside Diego's mouth from where the mouthpiece had almost split through the lower lip, in addition signs of a possible broken jaw were detected.
All 7,897 in attendance were prevented from bearing witness to the unfolding of a real classic. Casamayor, for now at least, looks every inch the uncrowned king of the 130 pounders. (Although a rematch would be a real natural, the post fight press conference revealed Joel's lack of enthusiasm for such a bout).
In the most heated fight of the night, Diego Chico Corrales and Joel Casamayor had a shootout argument for 130 pounds bragging rights. Corrales payed early for trying to mix it in a physical fight by sustaining a cut eye in the opener from a clash of heads, but the more shocking revelations came about in round three when Casamayor put Chico on the floor with a solid left hand but ruined the round's domination when a point was later deducted for hitting Corrales whilst holding behind the head.
