Saturday night in
Atlantic City, on the undercard of Mayweather versus Gatti there was
another Super Lightweight Championship bout. The champion, Vivian
Harris, put up his W.B.A. Title against unheralded Carlos Maussa. Vivian
Harris was supposed to showcase his skills that he talked about so
loudly, when expressing what he would do to Floyd Jr. or Ricky Hatton or
any other elite Super Lightweight. All he proved is that he was never a
threat to any of them.
Vivian Harris showed
he really had no business even being a World Champion. He looked
pathetic and his opponent looked even worse. It was extremely hard to
watch these two fighters go at it, although Maussa made it entertaining
to watch, as he threw wild slapping overhand rights that consistently
found their mark on Harris’ face. Harris looked like a dead man after
the second round.
In the post fight
interview, he had the nerve to say that he was the best Super
Lightweight in the world after just being knocked out by a guy that had
no clue how to throw a proper punch. Maussa walked toward Harris with
both hands down by his side, not even attempting to get out of the way,
letting Harris know that his so called punching power didn't exist like
he thought or the people who filled his head with the notion that he was
a tremendous puncher.
Maussa finally
managed to land a good left-hook that put Harris down and strangely went
after Harris and hit him while he was lying down on the canvas,
something I’ve never seen happen in a boxing match. Vivian Harris can't
beat Cotto, Hatton, Mayweather, or Gatti; actually, it would be really
hard to find anyone in the top ten for him to beat.
I hope now he goes
back to the drawing board, keep his mouth shut, and learn how to really
fight. He looked horrible out there; he couldn't even convince his own
Mother he could beat Floyd Jr. and would have a hard time
convincing anyone he could beat any of those other guys I mentioned as
well. Vivian Harris needs to wake up and be honest with himself about
his talent. He was lucky to have ever become a Champion. What he showed
on Saturday night was a complete disgrace. Until he truly learns how to
fight as good as he can talk, he needs to "Keep his mouth shut."
