WILL POWER AND BELIEF CARRY THE DAY FOR SAMUEL PETER? By Jeff Mayweather |

The Samuel Peter-Wladimir Klitschko fight is one that I have been looking forward to for a good while now. It is one of the most important and meaningful Heavyweight match ups in a long time and I personally feel it will turn out to be a war due to the contrasting styles that each man carries into the ring. To know Sam Peter is to like him. I’ve known him personally for a while now and I feel that he’s a great guy. He’s the type of fighter that just about everyone will root for if they get the chance to know him and to find out what he’s all about. Witnessing him in training and sparring out in Las Vegas, I have noticed that he is a real worker, someone who really wants it. He works hard on his craft while also keeping his mind open and trying to really think about what he’s doing. It’s as if he has a thirst to learn more. In Wladimir Klitschko we have a fighter who still has a lot to prove. At one time he was looked at as the successor to the Heavyweight crown, but shocking knockout losses to Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster have left him as an afterthought to many. In my opinion it is a mystery what happened to Wladimir’s career. He’s always had great ability, especially for a big man, and he has a great arsenal of punches but with his losses he has come off as a frontrunner who can’t handle the heat. For a fighter who once seemed to be capable of everything, he is now simply not the same. Samuel Peter is limited as a fighter and untested in a lot of ways but he is still a force to be reckoned with for a couple of clear reasons. For one, he is undefeated and still carries with him the belief that he can’t be stopped. Add to the equation the fact that he has great power and you have someone who is always going to be dangerous. Peter might not be the most highly skilled guy out there but he can punch with anyone and that is something that he is great at doing. I do feel that Wladimir Klitschko has a lot more to lose in this match up. If Klitschko wins this fight he is back in the mix and once again a major player in the sport, but if he loses his career is all but over. Samuel Peter, on the other hand, doesn’t have nearly as much to lose and can go back to the drawing board if he comes up short. Peter is only 25 years old and his career is just beginning to blossom while Klitschko is in a do or die situation. I think this fight will be very hard for Peter in the first four rounds because he will be dealing with something in Klitschko that he has never seen before. Klitschko is a major step up from Peter’s past opponents and we will see if the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ can dig down deep and weather the early storm. In my opinion Peter has enough belief in himself to pull through and enough power to knock Klitschko out. It won’t be easy but I feel that on September 24th we will see Samuel come out on top with the biggest win of his career. Questions? Comments? Write Jeff Mayweather
