BORN TO FIGHT

The boxing world was treated to a glimpse of the "Future in boxing" this Saturday night, February 1, at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Young Puerto Rican Sensation Miguel Cotto is the total package.

He has great balance, good speed, very tight defense, good power in both hands, a very economical and calculated attack, doesn't waste too many punches.

It's like watching a surgeon go to work as it appears he has done this so many times before and seems as though good results can be expected whenever he's at work. Cotto masterfully dissected former IBF Lightweight King Cesar Bazan. The fight was fought at a very fast pace, with Cotto maintaining control of the flow of the fight.

Cotto set the tone in the very first round when he caught the game former Champion with a blinding, vicious uppercut that appeared to be a body punch it happened so fast that only via replay was I able to visualize that it was a very short uppercut which landed at the point of Bazan's chin while he coming forward, depositing the former Champion on his knees.

The dominance only became more apparent with each passing round as Bazan's face started to look like a Halloween mask. He showed great courage and no desire to quit although he was thoroughly outclassed, and had not come remotely close to winning a single round. Yet Bazan toiled on in obscurity until the referee Toby Gibson had to rescue him from his own indiscretions.

Bazan was willing to risk permanent damage just to finish on his feet. As a fan I applaud him for his efforts but I applaud Toby Gibson even more for having the compassion not allowing this diehard warrior to go out on his shield.

Miguel Cotto no doubt one day will be a World Champion. He's possibly the safest bet of all the young upcoming prospects. This kid is mature beyond his years and unfortunately for his future competition he will only get better.

He is no flash in the pan, this young man is the Truth. It appears as though Miguel Cotto was Born to Fight...
