Following a very scary situation that transpired during the fight between Emanuel Augustus and Ray Oliveira this past Friday on ESPN2, we decided to contact Ray's trainer to inquire as to Ray's condition. (The fight ended as a TKO8 win for Augustus, and it was stopped at the end of the round by referee Smoger. As to the ring doctor who was called to check up on Oliveira, the only thing I can think of is that he should never be allowed in a boxing venue, let alone a ring during an actual fight. To say he seemed clueless is an understatement!) For the readers who had emailed us expressing concern for the ever popular 'Sucra,' we are happy to pass on the words of Ray's' trainer and best friend, Ice John Scully. "Ray Oliveira is doing fine. We went to the Emergency Room after the fight and a CAT scan came back fine. "Ray is a warrior, big heart in the way of Gatti, Ward and Holyfield. He wanted to keep going and was very upset that they stopped the fight but he was just not up to par. "I am still not sure what the actual physical problem was but he had tremendous pain in the right side of his body and in the back of his head. it was scary for a while, but all indications are that he will be fine from this, and will suffer no ill effects."
