Today Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Sr. met the press to discuss Oscar's upcoming fight against Spaniard Javier Castillejo. This is what they had to say.

DLH: Training camp is going great. Everything is on schedule and we fell ready so I’m very anxious and waiting patiently for the big day to come. I was at one point 162lbs or close to there, so making the weight wasn’t a problem. I feel stronger and faster at this size so it’s just a matter of tapering down now and making the weight. This weight here (154 lbs) feels natural to me I feel like I will be better in every aspect of fighting. Also, being part of boxing history is very important to me, that’s why I’m fighting at 154lbs to capture that world title and make history, along with that maybe I’ll be more appreciated after I get my revenge from my two losses.

FM: Oscar is in good shape right now. He feels better then he did at the lighter weight divisions now. He’s just as fast as he was at 147 but now he’s stronger. I look for Oscar to stop this guy in the end. I’ve seen some video of this guy and there are many things for Oscar to capitalize on.

BRC: Assuming you win what happens after this fight?

DLH:  What’s going to happen after this fight when I win the WBC world title, I’m going to be in the driver seat. I’m going to call out who ever I want to fight. Weather its Vargas, Trinidad or Mosley they’ll have to wait for me. I’ll announce whom I’m going to fight after the fight with Castillejo. Those are the three big fights for me; one of them has to be available to me soon. In order for them to make big money they’re going to have to fight me. They're going to have to fight me on whatever date I chose and where I chose to fight and their going to have to fight for my title (He must think Bernard’s going to give Trinidad the business).

BRC: Looking at you, Trinidad, and Mosley; who do you really feel has become the best and made the most improvement over the last two years?

DLH:  I would say, myself because in the last four months I’ve improved dramatically. What I’ve been learning here with Mayweather is just incredible. You see Trinidad has been trained by his father his whole life so he’s still the same fighter. I haven’t seen any changes in him since I fought him except that he’s at 160 and hitting harder. With Mosley he’s still the same fighter because of his dad and I haven’t seen any improvement whatsoever. I’ve now seen more openings with Trinidad and Mosley thanks to Mayweather. It’s like he’s opening a window for me to go through. If he throws a right hand I can counter off of it, I can throw a left hook off of it or I can block it. That’s something I didn’t have before.

BRC: Well, say you get drawn into a “fight” with Trinidad and not a boxing match then what will you be able to do because all that defense can go right out the window if you get cracked?

DLH:  I know how to do more things now like getting more defense in without doing as much boxing. I can assure you, that if I want to stay there and go toe to toe with Trinidad I can use my defense to brush off his punches then coming back with mine without backing up.

BRC: Assuming you get your revenge over Mosley and that’s a big assumption since he won over you more clearly than Trinidad to me; and Tito goes after Roy Jones and beats him (another big assumption) then retires undefeated, are you going to feel unfulfilled if you don’t get the rematch?

DLH:  The only thing I’ll feel is that he’s dodging me. Why wouldn’t he want to wait for me at 160 lbs would be my question to him. If he fights Roy Jones he’s not going to make as much money as he would if he fought me and that’s going to be a real tough fight for him considering Roy’s speed, power and defense. So it has to be that he’s dodging me. In the first fight I’m pretty convinced that I pulled out the victory. Trinidad knows that I have the secret boxing potion to beat him.

BRC: Looking back at the 8th and 9th round against Trinidad, do you think you should have went for the knockout when you were landing those combinations?

DLH:  Those rounds were a matter of conditioning and not having the right game plan. I was doing perfect for the first nine round then I just faded. It wasn’t like I wasn’t training hard but I wasn’t doing it right and that’s the number one thing that we’re tackling with Mayweather, my conditioning.

BRC: Well, good luck Oscar in your upcoming fight.

DLH:  Thanks.

P.S. One note to the readers: Oscar is running 5 miles every other day with boots that weigh two pounds each and he’s also chopping wood to create more power. As always he sounds very confident for this up coming fight. Not matter how good he looks I urge you all to remember that this guy he’s going to be fighting isn’t on the same skill plain as Trinidad, Vargas or Mosley.
